Our Guineas have had babies and it is getting expensive to feed them. I have heard that horse feed is ok but would be unsure which one to use. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I would not feed guinea pigs horse feed (pellets or mix) whilst they appear to have similar feed requirements, they are rather different animals and I’d be concerned that they were not getting the right things, esp Vit C as horses can make their own

Other than hay, horse feed is unsuitable for guinea pigs.

Just give it extra supplement, easy, problem solved

I bet it will work, just vitamin rich veggies and fruits and maybe some supplement too

I wouldn't be feeding guinea pigs horse feed. Pellets should only make up 5% of the food anyway and veggies around 10% and the rest needs to be hay, hay and more hay. I have 5 piggies so get my pellets in 10kg sacks and store it in a food storage bin. This lasts between 3 and 4 months it works out cheaper per kilo as well.

According to my sisters vet horses and guinea pigs have more or less the same needs when it comes to food, except for the vitamin c. Usually guinea pigs get enough vitamins from their veggies (if they are fed enough of them) and don’t need artificial vitamins( except ill guinea pigs). But horses are much bigger, so horse food bags are usually to big to feed them before it gets old.

Seeing you are already burdened with feeding them, I would separate your babies boys from girls so they don't breed again.
Babies will soon breed again and it will be even more expensive for you to feed them properly.

Didn't realize this was a thread from March.
