Hi so I dread the hot weather an we’re coming into summer and this week it will be in the mid 90s I have block out curtains an I have a fan in circulating around room . I come home in break to check on my piggies and change there water every few hrs .i still worry it’s to hot for them . When I'm not home I put frozen water bottles covered with fabric for them to lean on to lower their temp but is there anything else I can do to keep them comfortable thru the summer ? I really worry about them alot ! Two of my piggies ate 5 and my other two are 1 and 2 years old . I know they don’t have sweat glands but can I cool them down with a little bath. Everyone always has great ideas an always directs me an the right direction.

I will add in our it weather management guide for you.

Please do not cool them down with a bath.

Piggies cool by increasing blood flow to the ears - it’s not an effective method but it’s all they’ve got!
Work on keeping the room as cool as you can.

Hot weather warning for the UK - Member questions and heatwave feedback

If your piggies are plastered to a frozen, wrapped water bottle, they are already overheated. The first issue is to keep the room which your piggies are in as cool as possible (you will also enjoy the benefits) or to move them to a cooler room.

We have started this new collective thread here in Guinea Pig Chat for any questions and concerns:
