Hi guys, i have a female guinea pig who has been eating, drinking, and pooping well. Her weight has been excellent compared to get sister and age. Ever since i adopted her, she has been sneezing a lot and one time she even sneezed blood. I thought she might have had a bloody nose because its winter. But the sneezing has never gone away. Also when she breaths you can hear a snaping type of sound. It's been 3 months since i got her. What can i do to help her?

Please take her to the vet ASAP. If it has been going on for months, her condition could be critical.

If it was critical wouldn't she have been seriously ill a long time ago. Plus everything else is fine.

I would have beeen at the vets long ago. I'm shocked you didn't take her after seeing blood. She needs to see a vet asap.

She definitely needs to see a vet. Guinea pigs are prey animals and hide illness really well. I would have taken my piggy to the vet immediately they had sneezed blood.

I can only agree with others.
She really does need to see a vet.
Sneezing constantly, a cracking sound when breathing, and sneezing blood are not things you would normally see in a healthy guinea pig, so an examination be a professional is needed to rule out serious problems.

You are unlikely to recive any advice from memebrs on here that does not recommend a vet visit.

@Alex_04 If you take her to see a vet they may be able to prescribe a course of action that you can manage at home. Sneezing could be caused by many things so you need the vet to diagnose it properly.

I agree to also see a vet. What bedding is she using? If wood shavings it might be a piece has lodged up her nose or there is some other obstruction up there, hence the unusual noise. Anything unusual such as this warrants a trip to the vets, despite how well she is as they can go down hill very quickly especially when their breathing is effected. Let us know how you get on :)

Please take her to the vets, she is struggling and needs medication x

Ok. I'm taking her to the vet tomorrow. Should i separate get from the other guinea pig. If so, what should i do about who gets the water bottle.

There is no point in separating them. Any infection that is contagious the cage mate has already been exposed to and separation would stress them. Also if you only have one water bottle it would be unfair to make one go without

Hi @Alex_04
Is this the same piggy that you were worried might be pregnant?
Its good that you are getting her checked out. It sounds as if something is irritating her nasal passages, common culprits are dusty hay and woodshavings. Does she live inside?
An infection is a possibility so she definitely needs a vet check.
Hope all goes well and let us know what they say

Please update us after the vet visit! In the future, please take your guinea pig(s) to the vet when something is serious or unusual asap as the condition can worsen very fast and is usually better treated when it’s right away vs. waiting. Also you should never leave a pig without water in a emergency case where you’d have to separate them which I doubt will ever happen but just in case you should probably have two water bottles or bowls on hand which I always do. Best of luck to you, I hope her condition can be treated after so long!

Ok last question. When i feed my guinea pigs vegetables i understand that i have to feed each piggy 1 cup total. Do you measure the cup like by weight on a kitchen scale or by amount in a measuring cup

No it is not the same one that's pregnant. The vet said she has a URI and gave me a week worth of medicen

Hopefully that helps her. In the future, please get any animals to the vet as soon as possible. Guinea pigs are notorious for hiding how unwell they really are, so illnesses can actually be a lot worse than they might appear to you.

1 cup = 128g or 4.5 Oz
