As soon as I put my piggy's outside in their run, 5 cats turn up and sit on and around the run. I try to chase them away but they just come back. I have a dog but he's so friendly he just sit watching the cats. Poor piggy's just hide away. Has anyone got any ideas how I can spot the cats terrorising my piggy's. Please

Hello, my own cat sits on top of our runs and also watches, the guinea pigs get used to it and carry on as normal but you could cover part of the run with a heavy towel or my cat hates water being thrown at him.

Mine always used to taunt the cat it was hilarious!

I found a well aimed foghorn right by them works a treat! Never seen a cat run so quick. Also put some citrus sticks (they hate citrus) around the run. That may help.

I've not heard of citrus stticks. Where do you get them from?

Cats hate water, just a squirt with a water pistol will send them packing and does them no harm.

Chasing off cats does not really work, they just think you're a crazy human. Stalking them is much more effective. Fix them with a stare ( eyeballing is always percieved as a threat), emagine you are a preditor and they are your prey (try to mimick their body language when they are stalking, head lowered, etc) and walk very, very slowly towards them. If you get it right they will feel much more threatened by this than shouting and arm waving and will be much more warey of you the next time they see you.

HeHe, I think the neighbours might think you are crazy then.

Ah,this morning I was reading my catalogue that I buy bird food and bat boxes etc from (CJ Wildlife) and noticed a product called Cat Watch deterrant, its a sonic (I think) thing that you put in the ground, it says its the best thing on the market. Its not cheap at about £59, but if it worked....

I was considering buying the FoxWatch Deterrant but unfortunately that also repels dogs, so would be rather unfair on my labrador ;)

Thanks Goth mummy. I looked at this too. But the reviews were mix and I was worried about my dog.. Think I try some of the above first, if they don't work this will be my last resort. If you get one please let me know how you get on with it.

Everyone has the same idea as me, make sure the water is as cold as possible. A well aimed blast up the 'arris works wonders. ;)

Ha ha so funny. I just look at Argos they have one that you can fill with water and put ice cube in it too for ice cold water. But the best bit was someone wrote a review say it fab to use on cats that come in their garden

I would be worried that my neighbours would come and shout at me if I squirted their cat with a super-soaker :(

I know 1 of the cats belongs to next door. So I am going to say very nicely what I'm going to do first. She should be OK as she knows I have problems with her cat last summer coming into my house and eating the meat I was defrosting on the kitchen side and using my kitchen as a toilet.

I would be fine with someone squirting water at my cats to protect their animals. I would be very upset if they threw rocks or something at them though

I wouldn't use sonic repellent devices near the guineas because it's likely to be in their range of hearing and on the principle that it deters animals it can't be good for them to have to listen to it. I can hear the rodent ones and wouldn't like to have to listen to it all day!

If you squirted water at Priya she would come back for more! She absolutely loves water, and in the summer months she joins local children in their paddling pools, much to their parents annoyance. In the end I had to fill a cage base with water so she could have her own paddling pool. She didn't seem too impressed though, so think I will have to get her a proper one this year!
