Threepigs

Is there anything safe that I can put on our hutch stairs to discourage them? They are slowly eating through them.

I am looking for the gp equivalent of the stuff you put on your nails to stop you biting them!

We have given them all sorts of wooden and chewy things to chew, but they chew these AND the stairs.

well minealways used to chew the bars but onhere i was told it was because they were in a hutch near agirls hutch (they were boys) i moved them andthey stopped immidiately!!

i haven't heard of anything you could put on but ummmm i am sure many more opinions will follow mine!

I really dont think so :{ They tend to do this if they are bored or if there are other guineas nearby or they smell grass/veg possibly and they want to get to them/it.

Most of mine dont do it at all but Elmo does it when I am preparing his veg, not at any other time and Timmy and Sunny do it when Larry who lives in the C & C next to theirs' rumbles at them. Timmy does it a fair bit, I think to annoy the others :))

I hope they are not too bored. They get attention daily and currently have moved to outside our front door, so see everyone coming and going all day long. They have each other for company (3 of them) and are only about 3 months old, so we haven't wanted to over stimulate them by doing too much. They get petted and put in their run all the time though. In fact, I could hear one of them doing it after he got back from his run this morning.

As for veg - I give them lots and lots - I posted on here the other day as I thought I might give too much grass in fact.

Thanks for your reply - I'll mull it over!

Jon, I didn't realise you could keep boars in sight of sows... the person we got ours from said they would fight if we did. There are no other gps in sight, so I don't know why they do it!

Some will fight if in sight or even if they can hear sows.Mine live happily together around the girls but have been carefully introduced to do so.sorry i dont know of anything to stop chewing

We moved our boars inside a couple of wheeks ago into a new C+C cage which is quite close to our sow's C+C cage... they've been fine, no fighting - they do love peeking over their cage to try and catch sight of the girlies, and sometimes all of the piggies get excited and run around shouting and chattering with each other!

But... one of our boys has started eating the coroplast edge near the girl's cage - I'm sure I saw someone on here posting about a 'pepper' spray that could be purchased from Pets at Home? Not seen it there myself but will probably have a look - because it wouldn't surprise me if our boars tried to eat their way out of their cage, and then eat their way into the girlies' cage!

Try giving them lots of fun chewables in their hutch and this may subside
