How can you make sure your hay is free from mites and other stuff?

Hello, I have been buying 5 lbs bags of oxbow timothy hay and I want to buy cheaper hay. I found a website that sells bales of timothy hay for a much cheaper price. However, I am worried that the hay might have mites or other annoying insects in it. I live in Canada and the hay will be coming from a nearby farm. Is there a way to make sure your hay is free from them? I have heard of some people freezing their hay but wouldn't that cause mold? Also, I don't have enough freezer space for that. Do you guys do anything special to ensure your hay is free from critters?

I buy my hay from the farm and as long as it's stored properly it should be fine. Do you know if anyone with horses gets hay from there? If so the hay will be good stuff cos horse own are very fussy about the hay they buy.

I have never bought bales of hay before. I tend to buy the brand Pillow Wad as it is good value for money and good hay. However, it is a UK supplier and I tend to order from Amazon

i didn't know hay sometimes had mites in because i buy very good hay, however it sometimes gives you splinters
