So it would appear that 3 out of my 4 girls have fatty lumps :( Erin and Eliza have been confirmed as having them and now two small ones have popped up on Ena which of course I will have checked out.

Eleanor had lumps removed in August but they felt different and were definitely not fatty.

how common are fatty lumps in guinea pigs? I'm quite gutted that mine have them if I'm honest :(

I would say they are very common. Amina and Shereen both have them and have been to the vets who said they are fine to leave. It is a worry though. Every time I pick up Shereen I feel them and worry about them. :(

Our neutered boar Ouzo has a small fatty lump which our vet noticed during his recent check up. She has asked us to make sure that the lump stays the same size and if it gets either bigger or smaller to bring Ouzo back in. She said it was nothing to worry about as its quite common although this does nothing for our paranoia as far as our piggies health is concerned.

I'm not sure if they are common or not but Nibbles has had one for over a year now. It's about the size of a pea and hasn't changed. I check the other piggies quite often but nothing on them. I think it is something they get with age but I can't be sure. Don't feel bad, from the other replies they do seem common - which makes me feel better too!

I only have ever had one boar with a fatty lump, Basil, I had to have it surgically removed in the end but only because it grew a bit bigl

Truffles has a fatty lump - had it for a year on her belly and not changed - temp foster boar who is now permanant resident (knick named lumpy rat-face because he is a full ridge back with a pointy face and huge pink ears ) has a big lump on side attatched to muscle - this is a hard lump not a fatty one ,and sample of it came back inconclusive - still eats and poos for England - eats dar more than my other pigs - isnt loosing any weight and vet only thinks should be removed if gets reallly big and starts to cause discomfort.

They should be movable under the skin and not attached to any muscle layer. If your ever worried or your vet is unsure you should get the lumps sampled and sent for analysis. Fatty lumps are common in piggies. As they are common in some breeds of dog such as Labradors.

had my first ever fatty lump girly last week :( - noticed a pea sized lump on her side/groin area. took her to the vet, who took a sample from it with a needle, she put it on a glass slide & said it had a greasy appearance. so she hoped it a fatty lump - she couldn't find any pus'sy substance, so here's hoping. not sure how else they would test without more invasive methods? just got to keep an eye on it.

It's scary isn't it when they are first found. Fingers crossed it's just a fatty lump for your girl xx

hi there fatty lumps are very common in gps as i have 2 gps who have them jacob and ollie and they have been checked out by a vet who confirmed that they are non harmful, please do not worry as it is part of the piggies and as long as they are not causing a problem as in eleanors lumps were just keep an eye on them if they grow or cause discomfort then have them removed. good luck

I think as a general rule, if they move about under the skin, then they are nothing to worry about. If they are more fixed, then further investigation is advised. That is not to say that I wouldn't be worried too. It's because we care about our babies. :)

Thanks everyone :) Ena had her lumps checked today and the vet has confirmed they feel fatty. I am just to keep an eye on them.

Erin has a biggish one on her side but it hasn't grown any bigger since August.

oh i'm so glad its only fatty lumps :)) you must be so relieved ;) xx
