Hey guys. I made this because my guinea pig Jasper, passed away this afternoon. I loved him so much and I just want to know what he died of. Yesterday I noticed he wasn’t eating or drinking. Wasn’t pooping either. I just thought he was having some tummy issues. Today I got home from work and he was still just lying around, sleeping, overall really sad. A few hours later I heard him whimpering so I ran and found him lying on his side completely limp and every once in a while would kinda “run”? He would just move is little legs and whimper. Kinda like hiccups but it would jolt his whole body. I quickly rushed him to the vet, but he passed on the way over there. I’m absolutely heartbroken and it just happened so fast. I feel awful. Please let me know what I should have done differently.

I’m very sorry for your loss of Jasper :( sadly, guinea pigs can die from heart attacks and strokes out of the blue at any time and any age.

Sadly, without a post mortem, it is impossible for us to say how Jasper died.

But please be kind to yourself as you grieve. There’s nothing more you could have done

So sorry for your loss, it must be a terrible time for you. Usually by the time a guinea pig is not eating/drinking or pooping, there is something very wrong with them. He might have been sick for a little while but they are very good at hiding it being prey animals.

You could post a tribute with some pictures in the Rainbow Bridge section. Give yourself time to grieve and heal 🌈🌈♥♥

So sorry for your loss... what a terrible shock...x
