hi guys here is the situation my 2 friends have split up she is back living with her mum who has a vicious cat and allergies and he is in a rented pad. Basically he bought her a chinchilla a few years ago and although he is happy to look after the chin he is not really inot it! i'm sure he means no malice etc but I just can't help feeling that the Chin is probably a bit neglected/left to its own devices. he feeds it and puts in the sand bath etc so tends to it's needs so not neglected/cruel as such but probably not giving it much of a life. it is a mission to let the chin out as the rotteweiler needs locking up etc and the chin is a bit of a handfull! I suggested that we could have her here as, although we have no experience, the mild obsessive way we are about our guineas would also apply to the Chin and i think we may give her more quality of life. Am I just being a bit OTT?
hubby says no because the chin's cage would probably have to live in the piggies heated shed and he thinks it is unfair as they are like 'aliens' however i pointed out that it would be no different to the chin being surrounded by humans! and it is plenty warm enough. I think both mates wouldn't dream of asking/expecting us to do this and male buddy is doing his best but I think they would both be happy at the level of care we would offer if that makes sense? Any suggestions? :{?/

oh my god, my only suggestion would be go for it he he he they are gorgeous! My friend had one, it was like her best mate and he had his own room and everything, he was lovely.

Why dont you speak to people who know about them? There is a lassie on here who I'm sure her hubby breeds them, let me have a think on it and i will tell you who it is!

update * I'm sure its ema3080

Just to add as I couldn;t edit. My male friend's rottwieler is a total softie but just in case instincts kick in it is not worth the risk and when there is only one human to monitor it is impossible to hold dog and stop chin escaping! rolleyes

Dust risk?

There wouldn't be a problem with the pigs being exposed to the Chinchilla dust would there? Chinchillas need dust to keep clean and it gets everywhere when they bathe so I'm sure the piggies will end up breathing it in.

Hi guys , rather than start a new thread i wondered if anyone had any advice as my friend has asked me to look after the chin. She is coming with all the stuff and a starter kit. i have had a little google but wondered if i could get a basic idiot guide to chins so i am a little prepped for sunday. Will she be alright in the sitting room behind a door in an alcove? there is a radiator but i can turn it off? I just don't have anywhere else to put the set up. and how bad is the chewing when they have out time? will i be able to watch her enough to catch her before she starts? :{ how quickly can they chew through stuff? do they cause a lot more damage than rogue piggies? :(|) do they carry any infections that piggies can catch? thanks

Only just seen this post as I'm relatively new to the forum, but already addicted!

Hows the chinny settling? I don't have chins, but my housemate used to have two girls, so I mmiiight be able to answer any questions :P x
