Hi, i was just wondering when i get my guinea pigs how would i fit them in2 my life and i go 2 school from 8:45-3:15

i work nights at the mo have a large psycho spaniel with a walkies addiction (at least an hour a day)
house keeping etc! and sleep! they just slide in their and take over every day!
Dunno How thou!

They just live with me! No other pets so they don't have any competition. They get fed their dry food when I clean them out daily and a little veg morning and evening. Fortunately my dad is around to top their hay supply up - that's the only obstacle I could see, especially if your guinea pigs live up to the name 'pig' like mine do! However, I suppose it's possible to put a large amount in that would last them!

They get handled as and when daily...I like to keep the element of surprise!

I get up in the morning and feed my kids. I then get each out for a quick cuddle and my oldest talks to them all, i then give them their veg and leave them to it. Once the kids are in bed they runs come out and they go in for at least 2 hours (sometimes more) while i do my uni work. They live in my livingroom so constantly have us around. xx

I'm out 8-5 most days (well, not any more since I'm off on leave) and my pigs have each other to keep themselves company during that time! They're fussed over and fed a small treat by my partner when he gets up in the morning around 6 (usually given something like a cherry tomato or a tiny bit of cucumber). I give them their veggies, hay and a cuddle before I leave for work. When we get home we have dinner and the piggies are given their veg and let out to run around or come to watch TV with us on the couch. When they go back they get their hay, poops swept up, pellets topped up and fresh water. Usually take a couple of them to bed while I read!

They are fussed over ridiculously at the weekend and if we're not out they're hardly in their cage. They're very much in a routine because they spend a lot of the daytime when I'm in now just lying around or chattering to one another but don't seem so interested in me during the day on weekdays!

Up at 6.30, get Jacks breakfast and and send him off to school at 8am. Down to the shed ,spot clean any dirties, have a cuddle with everyone, then go and sort out their breakfast....feed them...mad rush to get myself and the housework and washing done, then off to work, I get home about 2pm and back down to the shed for cuddles and a chat (they are freerange so are out all the time) and afternoon snack. 3.30 back to my second job, home by 6pm.....pop down to say hi and spend some quality time :smitten:,top up dry food and hay...again. Generally go back down at 8pm to say night night and tuck them up for bed...must add that jack and OH are up and down there all day too.

mine do take up alot of my day but its easier now its sunny out...
I get up, feed them thier veg... pop them in thier runs and they go grass crazy... in the evening i pop them back into thier cleaned out cages and then they get cuddles, they take in turns as i hve 11.
they take over alot of my life but i wouldnt chage a thing, they better than prozac ! ;D

I love the guinea routine, and they do too! :smitten:
I get up at 6.30 and remove all uneaten food, and give the hutch a quick tidy. Then I get their veg ready, take it to them have a stroke and change their water.
7.30 I take my hubby to work, come back, have a cuddle with them then go to work.
6.00 Pm I get in from work, go and see them and get them out to play in the in-door run (a children's paddling pool) while I work on my degree work.
8.30 they go back in their hutch, with a top up of dry stuff, plenty of hay and a handful of greens.
Saturday is hutch cleaning day (now that its light on an evening it will be Saturday and Wednesday) when they either go out in their run if the weather is ok or come into the indoor run for a few hours.
Love it :)

Its funny because last week someone at work asked me hwat I did at the weekend and I said,
"Not much really, went and bought a paddling pool for the guinea pigs, picked up a bit of shopping..."
She was aghast! You put your guinea pigs, in a paddling pool?! I did'nt even know they could swim! ;D
Reassured her all was well, before she called the RSPCA! :o
Its great, they love it! Today I put a piece of cardboard folded over in to make a hiding place for them and they have spent ages underneath it, poking their noses out and shuffling it about and squeeking excitedly! They are so funny! Every now and then they shuffle the cardboard over bits of carrot or leaves and everything just stops apart from munching sounds, then they carry on 98)

Paddling pool is a really good idea!

I go to school and get back around the same time as you, I get up a tiny bit earlier and feed them, then when they get home I put them in their run while I do my work. Then I give them cuddles and feed them jsut before I go to bed. It really doesnt interrupt my schedule that much, and I think they're well worth the 15 minutes less sleep O0

I'm out like 6-6 so dont get much time except weekends where i make it up to them ;D

I am out at work from 8am to about 7pm (on a good day!), so I get up at about 6.30 to sort out the pigs, chop veg, check they're all ok etc. and walk the dog. The animals are all fine but I don't normally have time to feed myself!

Then in the evening same again - more food, extra hay for night-time, cuddles and floor time. At the weekends - well most of it is taken up with cleaning, feeding, cuddling, grooming (oh the long hair!) etc.

Having spent the last week in bed with some sort of 'flu bug, I have to say that I've really struggled with all the pigs - my routine is all ok until I'm not well! Luckily my niece is great and helps out if needed, she at least knows all of their names and where they live! Have now got them all labelled in case I'm ill again and need to tell my parents anything about a specific pig - otherwise it might take them some time!

i was thinking this morning as i got one of my boys out for a tummy rub how blessed i am... alot of people i know think I'm mad and a bit "mad cat lady" about my animals but i never tire of them and i love all the hard work... ok sometimes its a pain when i am tired and got stuff to do but as soon as i start i get lost in my piggy heaven and I'm happy... do u all find this too? i think thats why we love this place as we can talk to people as "mad" as we are!

Mine dont fit into my life I fit into theirs really! I live alone but work full time 9-5.30 so when I get home my time is generally taken up by them! what with feeding, cleaning out and floor time my evenings are pretty much used up!

I know what you mean though Clare, sometimes when I'm driving home feeling tired I think what a pain, but as soon as I open the door and they start wheeking for their tea, I get lost in piggy heaven too and my tiredness seems to disappear!Theres nothing like a pet to cheer you up!

i just spend any time i can with them, grab 20mins here and there :) get up a bit earlier, go to bed a bit later etc :smitten:

i put them in a run when i'm out right now i don't have a job so spend way to much time with them when i do start working full time i'll start having withdrawls :)
i put them in the run and when i come in at night i always spend 15 min at the least giving them a cuddle takes me a while though as i have 2 rabbits and my 3 boys to see to but wouldn't have it any other way they kinda just fit in lol

My boyfriend is forever asking me that question! ;D I'm up at half six and squuze in giving the mob their veggy breakfast and let them in the run. (If its too cold/wet I spot clean the hutch instead and leave them in). Off to work at ten past seven. Get home about half five, spot clean if they are out and put them away. Give them their pellets for tea. Do the housework, cook the tea and then pretty much as soon as I've eaten they take it in turn for cuddles. I've two piggies and three buns so its a bit manic but I like it that way. :smitten:

i leave for work at 7.45 ish and get home just after 5.30 - they are fine all day so long as they have water and hay and food! they also have each other for company and i have a feeling that a lot of sleeping goes on! i make sure i talk to them as much as possible when i am at home, and my partner does the same... and i make it up to them when i can! but they are fine without human company for a good few hours! :smitten:

I get up at about 6:30am. I clean out their cage (they are on towels at the moment, so cage cleaning is done twice a day - I hope to switch to puppy pads, with a layer of towels on top and then fleece), top up hay and pellet bowl. Quick cuddles and head scritches. Then veggies are given just before I leave.

It depends on the day as to what happens when I get home. Firstly I vacuum up poops. If it is a nice day I sit outside with them in their playpen on the grass. They all get cuddles again, and depending on the day weighed and nails clipped. Hay is topped up, as is pellet bowl. I then prepare their veggies for that night as well as veggies for the next morning (as I am in a rush in the morning generally, I prefer to have veggies ready so I can just chuck them in). Veggies are given and about a hour after that I clean out their cage again, and tuck them in for the night.

Oh and in between everything else, cuddle cups and saks are constantly being washed as are their towels!

HI,

I get uo earlier and feed them then i get ready for school and go to school. When i get home i sometimes handle them if i don't have too much homework. on the weekend i clean them out and give them fresh water ect but i take
out pieces of dirt duing the week so they don't get too dirty. After a while i got used to it its fun really!
