Is it right they sleep with their eyes open?

I would love for mine to fall asleep on me, or at least me know when they are asleep in the cage then I don't scare them.

Eyes closed means completely, utterly crashed out. Many pigs keep theirs open, but have a glazed, kind of inwards looking air.

Here is one of my Minx after she had made herself a "nest" of her liking:

A good way to make them fall asleep on top of you is letting them crawl under you pullover.

However, I recommend that you only wear old t-shirts and underwear, as inevitably a sleeping piggy will have an accident of the wet sort sooner or later!

Fred and Marvin closed there eyes together after the bath when they were wrapped up and being snuggled it was so cute! :))

How sweet! :)

I would love to see my 2 having a really nice sleep! They are always on high alert, it drives me mad! grrrr:(|)

I find servere trauma works well ie bath... I'm so cruel sometimes, is it just me that gets enjoyment out of the Mummy what are you doing to me face! Poor Fred lol!

When mine were asleep with their eyes open, a good way to be sure about if they were asleep or not was to watch their ears... they tended to twitch - you know like how dogs do when they sleep?

Ear twitching definately mean sleepy pig. Once, Porthos did this big squeak in his sleep and woke himself up and didn't remember that he was out with me and got al scared cos he wasn't in his house :( but I cuddled him all up and made him feel better and he soon went back to sleep... :) he was such a baby - he'd always sleep with his eyes shut.

All mine sleep with their eyes closed when they are properly asleep except for Jeremy who's eyes go up into his head and show white bits. Frightens the life out of me. I have to wake him to check he's still with us, which makes him cross, so I then have to give him a treat...Hmmmm, wonder if it's just an act to get a treat? lol x

lol! Porthos used to do that sometimes too... and he'd curl round in a tiny ball in his cage so I'd walk in to see him and be all worried he'd left me then I'd have to placate him with some apple after I'd woke him up!:))

I do believe that they learn whatever gets them treats and repeat it as often as possible!:)
