Well my piggy is nearly 7 and i think come monday i will have to have her pts. She has been unwell for a few weeks now and have been to the vets every other day in the past week/ 10 days. She's not been eating hardly anything for the past week and has not pooped for about the same period, very lethargic and miserable. You name it and we(me and the vet) have tried/thought it , friday the vet gave her a shot of steroids and something to get her bowels moving and as that has really not made much difference i think the time has come. :(

I am so sorry to hear this. What an awful thing for you both to be going through. I hate to say this but as she is not managing to poop and is so weak I would say that you are making the right decision. I know you love her so much and do not want to see her suffering any more. I am so dreadfully sorry for what is happening.

So sorry to hear about your little one :( I think that when the time comes you just know. If you feel that way then you're doing the right thing. Sending you lots of love

HUGS

I am very sorry; usually you know it in your guts when it is time to let go and spare her further suffering; she sounds like her body is already closing down anyway. It is a heartbreaking decision.

You have tried your best and given her a good long life, so you are not failing her. It will take your heart some time to catch up with your head afterwards, though.

I'm really sorry you are faced with this. I've had to put pets to sleep and it's always very hard to do. I know, for me, when faced with the decision even though it has been very painful, I've always known it was the kindest thing. For me it's when there isn't any way to fix the problem to return the animal to health and they aren't having any quality of life or are uncomfortable. ((HUGS))- and again, so sorry you are faced with this. 7 years old is a great age for a guinea pig- it sounds like you gave her a very full life.

So sorry you are going through this, I agree with the belief that you know deep inside when it is time to say goodbye. It sounds like you have done everything you can possibly do for her and it is obvious how much you love her. Choosing to PTS is never an easy option but often is the final act of love and kindness that we can do for them. We have had to make this decision twice with our first 2 girls and I know how much it hurts and how difficult it is.

I'm so sorry you are having to consider this heartbreaking decision. Massive hugs to you and love to your piggie x

How heartbreaking :Ayociexp118:

Making that decision is the ultimate act of love, and the kindest thing you can do for your little one. Its also one of the hardest decisions to make in your life.

At 7, shes lived to a good age which I know is no consolation but it sounds like you have tried your very best for her, and thats all anyone can expect of you.

I will be thinking of you both tomorrow x

As others have said, you just know when the time is right. It's the last act of being a good owner. You may find this thread about euthanasia helpful http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=89716. It contains information about what happens at the vets, and what happens afterwards. There are things to consider like do you want a burial or cremation, do you want to keep her ashes etc. which I think are important things to discuss before hand (with any family or anyone else involved) so that you aren't making a decision when you're really upset tomorrow.

Will be thinking of you all tomorrow x

Aw, I welled up reading this...how heart breaking :(
Think you know it's time to let go - I feel so very sad for you and your girl and send hugs x>>

oh heck, i am so sorry you are going through this, i guess we all have to at some point if we love animals.

If the vet can not find anything and she isnt happy i think it must be her time, you have done so much for her, this is the final gift.

Again, i am so sorry, i will be thinking of you tomorrow x

Sorry to hear of your little one. I hope all goes smoothly for you. The only thing i can think of as she isnt pooing is that she has a blockage somewhere in her digestive tract. But it really does sound like your doing the right thing. 7 is a great age.

Thinking of you.

xx.

Thanks guys, We have gone through everything that could be wrong(teeth, infection, blockage and everything else inbetween). Ithink it would be abit easier if iknew what was wrong or was something i could see ie a tumour. She's usually such a tubby pig but has lost alot of weight over the last few weeks and is now slightly under weight. She used to be out like a rocket when she heard my voice but now nothing. Will let you guys know what happens tomorrow.

This is heartbreaking to read. Like others have said you do definitely know when the time is right, you feel it as an owner as you know whether she's having a good quality of life. I feel your pain, hugs. Thinking of you xox
