How long till benebac kicks in?

Stripe was on antibiotics for over a month. He has had soft stool. I ordered benebac gel and gave it to him yesterday afternoon. I was encouraged because this morning his stool looked a little better and when the vet called I told her it was improving.

But now it's soft again.

She told me I could use it as needed.

I just gave him some more.

I really don't want to take him to the vet as he's had so many visits. He's just gotten over his ear infection and a wound.

Does it take a couple days to work?

Is Stripe still taking antibiotics? Typically I’ve given benebac during the antibiotic course but I don’t see any harm in giving it daily instead of as needed. I’d give my piggies 0.5mL a day of the gel solution. I’ve noticed improvement after 2-3 days of consistent use. Also make sure his perennial sac is cleaned and well oiled. If he’s older the abdominal muscles may make passing healthy poops a little more challenging. Many prayers for sir Stripe!

He is no longer on antibiotics. I'll give the benebac a couple days. He's very young, only 8 months old and his anal sack is clean.

You need to give it a couple of times a day for as many days as is needed.
When did the antibiotics finish?
(We recommend they are on a probiotic during the whole course if antibiotics and for a few days after it finishes).

You can also try to remove veg from his diet to see if that also helps his poops settle.

Switch to daily weight checks (if you aren’t already doing so) so you can monitor hay intake more closely. He needs lots of fibre to help things settle.
