i've just bathed my two piggies but i wanted to know how long it will take them to dry?

they are in their run with profleece and a tray of hay and snuggle sacs to keep them warm but i don't want to put them back into their clean cage until they're dry.

they don't seem to be drying quickly, and i don't want to use a hairdryer really.

thanks.

Depends on the length of their hair! You CAN try to blow dry them on the lowest setting - if they don't mind too much.

I usually leave mine for a couple of hours on some freshly washed mats with the cage flap closed, so they can't turn themselves in! But they are shorthaired or aby.

chesney is short haired and maisie is part sheltie, part smooth haired i think. maisie keeps shaking like a dog does when they've been in water. is this normal or is she cold?

chesney is starting to dry, maisie is taking a bit longer.

worried about them. maisie seems a bit agitated. could it be because she isn't used to it, or could i have not rinsed properly, something like that?

this is their first bath.

maisie is scartching and pulling at her fur. she doesn't seem happy. she looks itchy and agitated. i don't know why. :...

she's making a little chattering noise with her teeth. does this mean she's angry? she's eating now with chesney but keeps scratching and doesn't seem to like her fur being wet.

could i have done something wrong? or could she have maybe some tender skin somewhere and the water has agitated it?

mine do those noises etc til they are dry..
dont worry x
i dry mine on a low setting with the hair dryer, to get them partially dry.., one loves it, one doesnt but its quicker, easier, and its better than them chattering etc.. cos once the the thick of the wetness is off they settle down xx

ok, thank you. x

another heart failure episode for me! :...:...:... i need to calm!

dont worry! I'm the same when mine do something for the first time..
As long as you rinsed well..
I didnt last time, cos one was struggling soo much and kept jumping out.. later though, he kept scratching.. and I had to put him back in! rolleyes
Will make sure nezt time i persevere.. even though i seem to get wetter than they do! xx
worth giving them a quick once over with the hair dryer if you have a low setting though.. I didnt want to with mine, but it calms them down x

i've just used the hairdryer and she was ok with it. the tummies take ages to dry don't they!

i'm worried i didn't rinse her well enough to be honest. i don't know whether to re-rinse her. she isn't scratching as much, but if she carries on then i'll have to re-rinse her and start the drying again. it's chilly now though. don't want her to get cold.

i didn't know they took hours to dry, otherwise i'd have bathed them alot earlier. mallethead

Id leave them for tonight.. I always give myself about 3 hours for my 2 boys, to bath and dry and cuddle them ..
If you think you havent rinsed enough you could always re-rinse, but I'm sure you have, and yeah they take ages to dry! My stevie has long hair round his bum which seems to take forever!
Its getting colder and later now, I'm sure they will be fine.. x>>

chesney just lay down and relaxed when he was having his blow dry! he's so good. he is so laid back! they both were so relaxed having their baths, i couldn't believe it!

going to try maisie again with the hairdryer, she was ok, just chattered at me! she has a long 'skirt' which is taking ages to dry aswell!

thanks for your your help. x

aww, bless them! i think maisie would have made a run for it if i hadn't had her supported on my hand! i could see her thinking about it! :))

i'm surprised she was so good. i knew chesney would be! can't believe how much he loved the hairdryer! :)) maisie tolerated it and then ran off up the settee when she had had enough! :))

i'm staying up because they're back in their cage but her 'skirt' still isn't 100% dry and i'll be worried until it is! :...

I use the hairdryer on mine and they all tolerate it ok, some have to as they have long hair. Most of them just get a quick going over with the hairdryer to take the majority of wetness out of their hair then they get left to dry off. My biggest ordeal with bathing is when I need to do Cookie as she squeals like she is being killed rolleyes. This frightened me when she did it the first time as I thought I had hurt her but she was just protesting. Isnt bath time fun! :))

I've always used a hairdryer, The piggies love it! as long as its not on hot heat and keep it movnig so it doesnt burn their skin, there is no reason why you cant!

Poor Maisie doesn't seem to be too struck by her wet hair!

As long as the house is warm (20 degrees C) and there are no drafts they are in no danger of catching a cold.

I'm usually public enemy #1 until they are dry again!

they are indoors. i dried them with the hairdryer some more in the end and they had cuddles with me, and then played in the run. maisie had a 'skirt' trim aswell and then they went to their cage and i stayed up anyway and they were both ok, and they look and smell gorgeous today!

i'm well pleased with how they were, chesney was fine with everything as usually, he loved the water and the hairdryer on him! maisie i wasn't sure how she would be but she was brilliant. she did so well, they both did. so proud of them. x)

i didn't get any pics apart from one of them in their snuggle sacs on my knee after just to keep them warm for a little bit whilst they had cuddles and veg as a reward! i'll post the pic tomorrow.

it went so well really. it was their first bath, and the first bath i've given a piggy so i'm really pleased.

oh, and now i know i need to do it alot earlier next time, so maisie can have the week to dry! :))
