Hello, my name is Rebekkah Watson and I have just lost my guinea pig Fluffy. I just need to know what to do with his brother and how long to wait to introduce a new friend to him (Speedy). Thank You. RIP FLUFFY. LOVE YOU ALWAYS NEVER EVER FORGOTTEN.

I am sorry for your loss.

You can introduce a new friend as soon as you think he is ready. Looking After A Bereaved Guinea Pig

Do be aware that bonding comes entirely down to character compatibility, the two piggies have to like each other and want to be together for it to be a success. The best way to find a compatible friend is to take him boar dating at a rescue centre can help find that compatible friend and ensure a successful bond. Buying a new piggy from a pet store is risky as there is a chance they won’t like each other. In this case, you need to be prepared with a plan b and that is separate cages alongside each other so they can speak to one another but never have physical contact.

This guide below details the correct procedure for carrying out a bonding - ensuring the bonding takes place in a neutral area etc. It’s important to ensure you have enough time to carry out the bonding as once it is started, the piggies must not be interrupted and separated.

Hi there, sorry you lost your piggie, its always a very upsetting experience but you've been given good advice above. I was in the exact same position as you last year and decided to have my boy neutered (as he was young, very lively and I felt he needed company of the female kind). It depends a bit on how old your remaining chap is, if he's an older fellow a young boar may be more successful than if you've a youngster going through the crazy teenage fallings out. Or you can take him boar dating at a rescue as suggested to meet a new friend of his choosing. All the best & let us know how you get on xx
