Well that makes 18sq ft of space and 3 piggies need 10sq ft so is it an extra 2 sq ft per piggy? If my really bad maths is correct i would go for 6 or 7?

Well, using the table from the C&C cage website..

A 2x6 fits FOUR guinea pigs. Half of that, a 1x6 (or 2x3) fits TWO guinea pigs. Therefore two + four = six, so I would say six piggies.

I am using a 3x3 with an L-shape of 5 grids on the top, and that houses four pigs comfortably. so I reckon a 3x6 cage would house around 6 piggies?

the cage

I would say 5 or 6 - depending on the size of the sows.
Looks a very nice cage! :)

I went for 2 guineas...but then it would depend I guess on how much exercise and time they spent outside of the cage. If they were outside much of the day then it could house more I guess.

Nice size but doesn't the mess get annoying? If you're using lino you can still cut it in such a way (pretty much as you would correx) that there is a rim of it the whole way round, that way the bedding isn't going all over the place.

yep why not try creating a 'lip' with the lino so any bedding doesn't fall onto the floor?

lovely cage though btw! I want to make mine bigger to possibly accomodate 3 sows

?/ You would only put two piggies into a 6x3 cage? I am just a bit curious at the moment about this statement...

so am i abnoba! i thought they got scared if the cage was too big. obviously i was wrong rolleyes

I've said 4, was thinking 6ft x 3ft not grids so max i'd say 5 but personally would have 4 to give them that bit more room esp when you add pigloos etc :)

I probably should've stated the size of my grids! They work out to 15inches wide and tall each.

I've got four in, but some people are tempting me to get a rescue piggy and I'm trying to work out whether I could.

Yes, I would. I don't think I'm the only one who voted for 2 Guineas in a large cage. I believe in providing loads and loads of space for animals, and in essence don't enjoy keeping animals caged, so therefore to 'clear my conscience' I give them the most I can. My two spend their day in a purpose built 'natural' enclosure with hides etc. that is 20 ft x 13 ft and are not fearful in any shape or form, they run and graze happily...stimulated by their environment. IN a 6ft x 3 ft cage you could fit in lots of toys, tubes and so on for them, they'd have a whale of a time.

Providing there are plenty of bolt holes, small hides and so on to provide security for the guineas I have not had an issue with animals being scared because they have too much space. Out in the great outdoors they would have unlimited space and cosy sleeping areas. I did not in any way stated that anyone was right or wrong in my original post....so I really don't know why you have made the presumption that I think you are wrong ?

As I stated earlier, if the guineas had plenty of additional areas to run in during the day then I would keep more than 2 in a cage 6 ft x 3 ft. However, if they were left in the cage a great deal then I would only keep 2. I am fairly shocked myself that many people voted to keep 6 guienapigs in a cage of this size.

Yeah, my cage is 7.5ft by 3.75ft, but I personally wouldn't keep more than 5 in.

I have as many hidey houses as guinea pigs plus three tubes. I have an extra 15*15inches on the side for a feeding area so that doesn't take space in the 6*3.

Sometimes I am wrong and I tut myselft for it, hence the rolleyes at myself. I wasn't arguing with anyone or anything like that. x
