How many veggies

Not sure but just wanted to say I judge how much to feed my pigs by how much they eat..like if they leave looads one day then I'll give them less the next etc..it depends on how greedy your piggies are really ;)

they are very greedy and when they were pairs they ate: 1 apple, 1 carrot, 2 leaves of cabbge and a stick of celery everyday :o

I could be wrong, but I don't think you're supposed to give them too much apple, one whole one sounds too much.

I tend to chop up spring greens, celery, cucumber, melon, carrots, herbs, mixed lettuce - whatever I have in really, and give them a couple of handfuls each daily. Twice a week they get a piece of apple each or a few grapes

I agree. A whole appl for 2 piggies is a bit much. If my lot have apple then it is 2 of them, chopped up for 14 piggies

I do the same as Kathryn when feeding ine. Everything being chopped up and mixed together :)

Each of my pairs have a good sized 'handful' of veg fed twice a day between them. Each portion is a mix of veg (I feed fruit only as treats maybe once or twice a week) and is chopped up.

well i have 4 guinea pigs living together there are all girls this moring there have half a pear come and a 1/4 cucumber and a some rocket

I don't agree with that. Piggies do an will stop eating when they are full. My lot do anyway

ours are just into munching the skin of a banana right now,and they love it ( eww)

I've not tried mine on banana or its skin, I'll have to see if they like it

yeah well my lilly eats if she is fully or not or she must never get fully i dont know but she allways nibbling at something or other max will eat some of his veggies then go away and lay down etc than come back when wonts some more later

Whenever I try anything on my piggies that they have never eaten before or they haven't eaten in a long while (like a few months) I always just give them a tiny bit. Then if there's no problems the next day I'll assume it's alright for them! Obviously I check which foods are safe first, this is just a way to see if they like it and also if they react to it strangely (as each piggie is individual). Yesterday I gave three piggies two large handfuls of mixed salad (contained romaine lettuce, watercress, coriander, parsley and cucumber) and they scoffed the lot in a matter of mere minutes! Yet they eat bagloads of hay and a whole bowl of pellets also! I think as long as you know it's safe, as long as you have "tested" a little bit on them first, and as long as you don't give them way more than they can eat, it's fine.

It is reccomended to give 1 cup of fresh, mixed veggies per adult pig, per day. So if you have 4 pigs, give 4 cups. I would give more of the leafy greens, wheat grass, dandelion leaf and flower, any lettuce (NOT iceberg). I would try to stay away from the cabbage...it has been known to cause gas/diarrhea. Celery is ok when chopped very fine. NO strings left in the celery (it can cause chocking). I would also give cherry/roma tomatos, a baby carrot per pig, dill (fresh), turnip greens, collard greens (not too many), beet tops, green peas, broccoli in small amounts, bell pepers are a fav and high in V C. Hope this helps. I know that not every one would agree with this, but for more GOOD info read: http://www.guinealynx.info/diet_vegs.html
