Teenage Guinea Pig
Hey y'all,
I've been absent for a while, must apologise! Hope nothing too scary as been happening out there with you guys! I've had a manic xmas and changed job role temporarily this month so things have been a bit haywire.
As for Leeland and Vincent, they're continuing to confuse me daily!
Leeland's foot is now off the fucidin but we still give twice daily surgical scrub soaks for 2 mins. So far the swelling has been kept at bay. But I am concerned about her apparent bloat and calcerific pee. I've cut out cabbage/kale (for the gas) and the meadow hay (for the calcium) she was on. I'm not sure the meadow hay was a problem for calcium but couldnt be sure. The litle man had no trouble with it. We're now back to the hay she has spent most her life on p@h large bundles of whatever looks the least straw like.
Her pee is plentiful so I'm not worried she isn't drinking but months ago when she was ill she couldn't drink due to physical issues in her mouth so all her liquids came from food and syringe. Has this had a long lasting damaging effect? All she is on now is carrot, tomato, apple, and cucumber regularly. Maybe 4 times a week she will receive either the odd slither of banana as a tiny treat, a small slice of watermelon (if I have any in), an orange segment, half a small bell pepper I've been growing. I used to give romaine lettuce daily until Vincent started developing soft poos so I've stopped that in both and all other soggy veg. Hay is limitless and they both eat it constantly and so are burgess blackcurrant oregano crunchies - though I put a small bit in at a time to keep it fresh. They get a few pinches of p@h guinea muesli and a sprinkling of forage mix in the hay two or three times a week.
I can't think how she's still having so much bloatyness and why her pee is so chalky (on drying) I've rubbed it and thankfully it is soft not gritty. She used to squeek before peeing and pooing (mostly when held for her treatments). I thought this was her begging to be put down so she didnt pee all over herself. Could it have been pain? I took her to Alan my vet for a good feel and he said it was mostly bloat - infacol to treat. I guess it's gone down a bit but she still feels pretty solid. If I try to massage she gets very uncomfortable, and she's pretty tolerant to my constant poking and bothering.
Anyone got any ideas how to help reduce this bloat, is there something obvious I'm doing wrong?
