The two piggies I have now were bought with their small cage and a few supplies for very little and they were already a year old. My third one is a Texel and I put a deposit on her, as a purebred she was expensive, I did not realize that people actually paid significant sums for purebred breeder bought piggies.

Whether free or dear they are all wonderful pets, I'm just curious as to what others have paid for theirs.

Many of the guinea pigs on here come from rescues, and a donation would have been paid and gratefully received. Others have been bought from pet shops, and the going rate paid. A few will have come from breeders, but probably not so many.
Yours are not still in the small cage are they? xx

They are in a larger cage while their C&C is being finished, the coroplast is being shipped to me. It doesn't matter whether piggies are free or dear, they deserve an appropriate place to live and good care, they depend on us for everything.

I am sure yours will love their new c & c set up. Some of the people on here have great c & c guinea pig homes. xx

All of my eight guinea pigs are rescues. For the couple I adopted from the RSPCA (the animal protection league in Britain) I payed a fixed donation which I doubled as I thought it was too low.

The rest came on free donation, but I tried to give as much as I could afford in order to pay towards their stay in rescue/transport, so the rescue wouldn't be out of funds for my guinea pigs.

our piggies were bought from a pet store but the cost of them and all their kit cost relatively little compared to what we have paid in V.E.T bills :) but we wouldn't have it any other way we x) them the minute we got them and at present Maurice is curled up in his cosy with his big white bum and oh soooo cute leg sticking out x) and Jules is lying almost on his side with his oh sooo cute leg out the side hehe

My rescue has fixed adoption costs for piggies. 13£ sek for one 17£ for two. Two together with a second hand cage and start up stuff is £45. Neutered boars are 60£, based on the cost of the operation.

I'm so very glad I came across the rescue option when I wanted to get piggies. I didn't know there were piggie rescues. It's just better in every single way... The support I get from the rescue lady is invaluable and she helps with bonding and minor conditions. She also has a bording service. I don't live in Gothenburg now so I can't take advantage of all that's offered, but use her e-mail support weekly! Also, to be able to get a neutered boar without having to do the worrying... Priceless.

I rescued my one piggy Joey after someone placed a ad in the local paper saying 'guinea pig and cage free to good home' I just had to have him, as he was very skinny, had long nails, no hay/veg in the cage and hardly any fur. I was so glad that i rescued him so i call him my rescue piggy even though he didnt come from a rescue.
I then got him a friend Gizmo he was from a rescue centre and i paid the adoption fee for him which went towards the rescue centre.

I then bought a nero 4 cage and stand for them to live in which cost me about £90.
But now they live in a 4x2 c&c cage and that is much bigger with a hayloft and cost about £40 which was more than half the price i paid for the nero! I just wished i knew about them before!

Now they just cost me for their weekly veg which is under £10 max a week. As Ive got lots of different hays and bought a large bag of dried food so i only really buy their veg and any other little treats that i fancy getting them.
I also save some money aside just incase i ever need to visit the vets.

:)

Both my boys were bought from petshops. One from Pets at Home and the other from Pet and Garden Center. Although I wish I had known about Rescues a bit more than I do now...I don't regret getting my boys from pet shops for a second. I love them to bits and would never trade them for the world. I just wish I had been a little wiser.

Ralph cost me £15 and Arnold cost me £18.
I feel quite sad when I put a price on them...When I think of how they're purchased just like items. But they have a loving home and are happy and that's enough for me :)

the few i paid for cost a tenner each. In the long run they have cost a lot more - yesterday spent £219 on 2 hutches :red

My girlies were £30 each and Fred was £10 at pets at home adoption. Both were donations.

The girls cost me an additional £100 in transfers I had to come to Scotland to get them, they could have cost alot more if it wasn't for some lovely people :)! x

When I got Max and Chip they were approx £20 each from Acorn. Buttons was a donation to Helen in Gretna and I gave a similar amount as I thought it was only fair.

my two boys were free to a good home off freecycle, i didnt even know what they looked like but had to get them to make sure they got a good home. Since then ive bought a two tier hutch with run which cost nearly £100 and because i moved in with my b/f and he did not want them in the house in winter i bought a really well made shed for £460, (which has a plug in radiator to keep it cosy - I'm dreading the leccy bill) I dont like to add up the cost because b/f would moan rolleyes but as far as I'm concerned my chunky piggies are worth it :))

Mine were pet shop piggies :red priced at £45 a pair, they don't sell them individually. After that they've cost me hundreds and been worth every penny x)

My 2 were from Pets at Home - think they were £38 for the 2 of them. There was an offer if you got a pair - but that was always my intention anyway.

I wasn't that aware about guinea pig rescues - I had tried the SSPCA first but they didn't have any and couldn't offer any advice as to where I could get one so I ended up going to the pet shop. To this day I still haven't found any rescues near me other than Thistle Cavies which is a fair drive away.

I was the same as you Angeladeedah, i'm in Fife and had a look around but finding nothing went to Acorn. Unlike some of the petshops who insist on selling in pairs Acorn are more than happy to sell you one and even made me sign something saying they had warned me about keeping 2 boys together, how many people do you think that puts off?
I didn't know much about guinea pigs when I first got them but had done a bit of research and knew they shouldn't be alone!

I paid donations for my rescue pigs of £15 each.

My pets at home girl was free as a sorry for the sad story of the very poorly baby they sold me that died.

I got one from a breeder before I joined here and wised up - she's a teddy and cost £10

jake was £10 from p@h adoption oliver was from p@h too but was £19 had to take him home with me as he was jumping all over the place & just had a feeling no one would want him as is a cheeky monkey :)p

harry was £35 from the free ads page i feel in love & had to have him he snuggled in as soon as i picked him up came with cage & bedroom his cage was too small for him so got him a bargain off ebay :)p his old cage top i use in the garden in summer so he can munch all he likes

ben was about £6 again snuggled in & stole my heart i just handed over all the cash i had on me but he's had a new cage bowls bedroom fleece toys spoiled rotten :)p

bambi was about £10 from a rescue

all spoiled & worth every penny & pound they have cost me wouldn't change any of them for the world all my baby boys x>>

My first (Piglet) was totally free from a lady at my work... her petshop pig was sold to her already pregnant and Piglet was one of two babies born as a result.

My second (Lenny) was a Pets@Home Pig and cost £18.50.

My third and fourth (Archie and Belle) cost £25 (voluntary donation) each and came from rescue (Sokel Guinea Pig Rescue - Helen @ Gretna).

Ronnie & George = 15 which was rescues fee

Kizzy = Paid 5 quid to get her out of there ! :x people

But thats just of them things i suppose, £5 to save her life ... not much is it really

My 5 private rehome girlys No longer wanted but wanted money as they hadnt had them long = Trio was 20 & the Duo was also 20 as miley is texel

Poppy and Patch cost 9 pound each and were from a lovely farm nearby and were all snuggled up on the grass with their mummy.
Pinky and her sister Perky(RIP) cost 5 pound
When I get more piggies I'm going to pay a visit to the local rescue

Rosie was a present. My sisters were given her by someone who didn't want her and they gave her to me. Poppy and Daisy were £10 each from a rescue. Charlotte ended up being free cuz I got her and Millie from P@H and Millie died so they refunded my money for both. Lexi and Kizzy were £30 but came with a cage. They were unwanted christmas presents that i found on the internet.

Thinking about all this makes me feel a bit sad that I only spent £5 on Spike in 2001. He was being sold cheaply at a guinea show cuz he was the wrong colours.

Cost has nothing to do with how good a pet he is. He was lucky his colors were wrong, because he got to end up with you and I know he has a wonderful life :)

Audrina and Heidi are rescues, Lily and Rose are from breeders/unwanted stock at shows. Coraline who will be here in a few weeks is from a friend near where I work from a surprise litter.

That doesn't matter. You love him all the same.
It's sad that he was being sold simply because he was "the wrong colours" though :(

piggyme234 it doesnt matter that you only paid £5 for Spike i only paid £6 for ben

you given Spike a lovely home & spoiled him rotten
