Trying to work out how much I should give them, at the moment they aren't eating many pellets (id guess at an egg cup full or slightly more) but loads of hay and most of their veg in an evening so they have an appetite! They are toilet ing fine and seem happy & healthy - maybe they just dont like Pellets?

I know the packs tell you how much they should eat, but I know for my rabbits I feed them far less pellets than it says to get them to eat more hay as otherwise they wouldnt eat enough. I know pigs and buns are very different creatures - which is why I was wondering what an average pig should eat?

I've got 2 girls, about 3 months old. They're currently being fed on pets at home pellets but I'll soon be starting to wean them onto wagg pig pellets as our local pet shop does them permanently on buy 1 get 1 free so will work out much cheaper and easier to get them with it being closer.

As they are growing they should be allowed unlimited pellets, once they get over a year I would cut it down to about an egg cup size once a day.

My pig has chronic bladder problems so gets a small handful every other day, he'd eat a full bag given half the chance, my boys seem to prefer pellets. The best thing for them is hay, they will be fine as long as they are eating some pellets as they do need them for Vitamin D and there veggies will supply vitamin C.

Thanks sounds like they're eating the right amount then, I make sure there's plenty In their dish but they just aren't that interested. The rate the hay goes is amazing! Want to get a little tub to give a measure, the amount they eat on a normal day (adding extra if it goes sooner) so that when we're away for a weekend in a couple of months, the lady caring for them knows if they're eating what they usually would - ie to help her spot if they've lost their appetite.

Best thing you can do for your girls is weigh them weekly, it's so easy to spot illness though there weight. I've noticed most illnesses before it they even have symptoms, and then shortly afterwards what's happening becomes apparent and you start seeing more signs that you would probably have dismissed had you not had the initial alert.

Thanks I'll start doing that then :) I'll probably still sort out a tub for measuring the pigs food while we're away, just to help the lady spot if they've lost their appetite for those few days. Bit paranoid about them I'm sure they'll be fine but with animals I always think unless you know the animal, it's hard to know if they're ok. Some are normally quiet, lazy etc but for others that would be unusual, but for most furries if they aren't as hungry as normal there might be something up, but if they aren't as hungry as normal that could point to something.

Lol the end of that last post doesn't make much sense but it won't let me edit it again.

Dh has just been chuckling as I've had him reserve me a new set of scales from argos just for the pigs, as they're only £2.99 he didn't mind lol
