It’s been a long time since I last had 4 piggies so I’m unsure how much veg is sufficient?

When I just had Edward and Elizabeth, they went through 2 cucumbers, 6 peppers, 1 pack of green beans, 2 packs of little gem lettuce (2 lettuces in a pack) and 3 packs of coriander weekly but they always used to leave quite a bit on the plate. I think I was still feeding enough for 3 since we lost Ellen last year.

I have been feeding them extra cucumber and coriander but not peppers, green beans and lettuce as that’s always the veg that I think I was over feeding when I just had the two piggies as they always left bits of these.

Do you think that 3 cucumbers, 6 peppers, 1 pack of green beans, 3 packs of coriander and 2 packs of little gem lettuce (2 lettuces in a pack) (with added extras such as baby corn, broccoli and carrots depending on what we have in) will be enough for 4 piggies per week or should I be buying more / less? They’ve been eating everything I’ve been serving up so far.

I know you have 4 piggies @alpacasqueak, may be you can help :) x

Allowing for the slight differences in veg preferences, it sounds more or less like double what my 2 get through in a week, so about right I guess? Sounds like they will be happy piggies with those tasty veggies!

I usually feed two handfuls of veggies per day for each piggie, split breakfast and teatime. I struggled cutting down when we lost Ted, he ate slower so I think the girls got a little more than their fair share at times. You get into a routine and then, when ones gone it is quite hard to change shopping habits etc.
If veggies are left after 15-20 minutes I usually make a mental note to cut down slightly now.

I’m still a bit bad for over feeding veg to the porky pair after Jess leaving us too! But Luigi’s a big lad so not much gets left with him around tbh! :xd: I feed about the same amount as @Bill & Ted but I do give slightly less to Jasper and Cleo as they’re smaller.
Yes that sounds good to me @Claire W :) I tend to swap and change lettuce though, so they have the odd salad bag for variety (as no bladder pigs!) and romaine too. And cucumber only once a day to the porky pair as too much seems to give Luigi squishy poos!
So glad the new girlies are tucking into everything! Sounds like they’re settling in brilliantly!:D xx

Sounds like a lovely variety and amount of veg there @Claire W that's about the same amount as I feed to 8 piggies lol :)
We also get a mixed salad bag and usually 1 type of higher calcium veg like parsley or spinach.
it all depends on your piggy's preferences and any special diets for health too though doesnt it, we dont have any bladder piggies luckily but we are a bit careful to limit the leafy veg seeing as Puggle is prone to bloat and Ollie gets a bit impacted with too many leafy greens or wet veg :)

Thanks everyone :) I forgot to add that their veg is spilt in to a portion twice a day. Do you think I should just feed them the same amount I was feeding Edward and Elizabeth so not bother with the extra cucumber and leave it as two cucumbers a week split between the 4 of them? I don’t want squishy poo x

I give cucumber twice a day to J&C, it just seems to be a ‘thing’ with Luigi really! Never had an issue with any other pigs with it! It’s good Luigi has a bit less of something though really! :xd: Sure they’ll be fine with it twice a day but maybe just keep an eye as they’re new piggies :)xx

I have the 4 also @Claire W . Twice a day both couples get this size dish of spinach other leaves pepper cucumber and other veg, 20210320_104018.webp20210320_104043.webp
Most time its all eaten , , I also,as a treat hide few bits,
I can't really say 2 cumber 4 peps etc as I put lots veg bits piggies leave into a bucket for ducks and hens

Our 4 piggies go through 1 pack of green beans, 5 peppers, 2 cucumbers, 1 pack of coriander, 2 big or 4 small spring greens and half a pack of baby corn on average. According to OH, we feed approximately 1/4 of a big pepper, 4-6 sprigs of coriander, half a baby corn, 2 green beans and 2 1cm thick slices of cucumber per 2 piggies.

I am very good at overfeeding veg so OH is in charge 😂 He can resist the begging looks!

Hi!

Use our sample diet picture as your guide as to portion control or simply feed double of what you have over the last year since Ellen's death: Long Term Balanced General And Special Needs Guinea Pig Diets
