How Old?

My eldest piggy I've owned was an estimated 6 1/2, I'm not sure why she passed away but may have been because of her heart.

My next oldest piggy is Terry who is about 5 - 5 1/2.
Frazzle and Annie are around 2 1/2.
George and Tilly are coming up to 1 1/2.
Then Willy is 8 months :)

My oldest piggy died last year, Poppy she was 7 :( She had a sudden bout of diarrohea, it was around the time reports of EColi in veg from Spain etc was reported so we don't know if it was down to that.

Prior to her all our piggies died between the ages of 3 1/2 to 5 years old.

Our current three are 2 years, 15 months & 14 months old.

I really hope they live as long as Poppy although we were devastated when we lost her as 7 years is a very long time. I just make the most of every moment I can with these fantastic little creatures :)

I'm going to be a little controversial here and say ... we have too much knowledge I personally feel that many people (I am by no means aiming this to any one here so please don't take offense!) care too much for their animals. We don't just let them get along and just be, we worry about their environment, what the come in contact with, what they eat, every time they sneeze we panic. I know someone who de-seeds apples for their rabbits ... which i find ludicrous ... a wild Rabbit wouldn't have it's pips removed. I think by trying to protect them so very much, we are weakening them! They aren't as robust or hardy as they are no longer given the opportunity to be.
Buuut thats just my thinking.

I don't think that is controversial at all. In fact I've been thinking about trying to give my piggies a more natrual way of life. They are already pretty basic. Bedded on just hay and newspaper, home grown herbs and veggies where possible etc.

How long do wild cavies live I wonder? *goes off to google it*

I am guilty of all of above! I have only had my piggies for 3 months and if they cough, I think they have breathing problems, scratching themselves- they have mites and if the have a grumble at each other, in my head the shall of course rip each other to shreds!

I will of course check them every day but I do have to relax a bit because the more I read ( not on this forum-general stuff on the net) the more anxious I become, I took my two to the vet 3 weeks ago because Patches coughed/sneezed. The vet asked how long he had a cough, I had to explain he coughed once-While eating- the vet said to keep an eye on him but he seemed healthy and might just be greedy and eating to quick (he hasn't coughed once since!)

I have stopped reading sites about guinea pig diseases :(|) and enjoying my boys.
Although I will **** still obsess a bit to much mallethead
