They desperately need doing now, found a huge clump in Ludo's bum fur. I will admit I haven't really been able to groom them properly if ay all around their bums because they scream the house down.

They are going to have to have their bums and bellies bathed tonight but I am scared of trimming because the clump is close to the skin.

I am so scared of cutting the little fellas. I need some help! 8...

What do I do when they are drying? Would having them lay in a towel be the best way because I can't use a dryer on them! :red

I use a pair of baby nails rounded end scissors to trim my bunnys rear when she gets poopy (she's too fat to clean herself properly despite many diets :red ). I also wrap my piggies in towels and sit them on my lap although I do use a low powered hairdryer to dry them off (my daughters barbie one).

For cutting hair:

Take a bit of the hair you want to cut loosely between your index and middle finger and then cut it with sharp scissors.

Never pull hair - that is very painful. Always keep your fingers between the scissors and the pig. That way, if they jerk, you will cut yourself, not them!

Best of luck! Make sure that you have something ready to prop up yourself after surviving this heroic deed! :))

Thank you! I am so stressed about this! I will go and buy some nail scissors at lunch!

Think it might be a good idea to cut first then there isn't as much fur to dry.

From my experience, it pays keeping the back end short cropped - it might not be so showy, but it's certainly a lot easier on you and the piggy!

I feel like I am going to scare them to death. :(

I have just bought some little nail scissors, for only 99p! I have decided to separate the skin and scissors with a little comb...

Good idea.

I have to bathe Mork today too - 1st time. He's still a bit scaly so it's bath time for him before more Xeno next week.

We can compare notes later.

Good luck!

Lisa... Bath pictures :<>:<>:<> And You 2 Jen, if it isn't too stressful!

I wouldn't bathe a baby pig, but you've received excellent advice for trimming dirty hair off :)

Is 3 months too young to bathe? I was only really going to wash their bums in the sink...")

I will try and get before and after pics!

Are they ok near the central heating to dry?

Three month is should be old enough for two very dirty longhaired boys!

They might be frightened by the hair dryer and the whole experience, so letting them dry off by a radiator is not a bad idea - especially if you go and soothe their ruffled egos with a special treat. It may take a day or so, before they forgive you, so don't be discouraged! mallethead

Awww this is NOT going to be fun! :0

I definately can't blow dry them, my hairdryer is like being in a wind tunnel! :(|)

I will get my BF to hold them as they are good with him. Can't wait to shampoo their bellies! :(|)

<<<<<----------- Look at those faces, i feel guilty already!

How often am I supposed to be batheing/trimming?

How often you bathe depends on your shampoo.

If you're using a human or baby shampoo, you can bathe every three months.
If you're using a Gorgeous Guineas product you can bathe every month because these products are designed especially for guinea pigs and their skin type and to combat skin problems.

If you have a particularly long haired pig, trim their hair whenever it starts to become annoying or a problem (or touches the ground, in some cases, when they walk)

I have Woody who needs his bum and baubles trimming quite often.

He's really good, but I've found that if I use a small pair of nail scissors that don't make a noise it makes a big difference. He needs doing this weekend he looks like the size of a small cat atm, and it's all hair, when he's wet he's a third of the size. I do use a hairdryer on a cool setting with him and he doesn't bat an eyelid, but when I'm drying I have my spare hand between him and the hairdryer, ready to catch a fleeing piggy if the need arises.

Good luck, and take your time, there's nothing worse than rushing and getting flustered. Enjoy it.

Thank you! My gosh your pig is a stunner! x)

Thank you, it's not a very good photo, and doesn't really do him justice, he's not that pointy nosed, but he is a very pretty boy and he really knows it too.rolleyesrolleyesrolleyes

I have a photographer friend whose going to come and take photo's of all the boys, so I will be posting them on here just wish I had a photography talent, well either that or piggies that would stand still.

Good luck once again.

Thanks again,

I have that problem too, I know my boys always look beautiful on pictures but not half as much as they do in real life. :))
