I am interested in how much our piggies (or any other animals) pick up on how we are feeling.

I was having a discussion with a friend last night about success or failure in bonding male piggies. I've had a huge success rate with this and I wondered if this could be because when I introduce them to one another I am very calm about it because I expect it to work. This being because the first few I tried worked very well! My friend was saying that she is always feels quite anxious and generally it doesn't work. However, due to a bad experience I had in the past with females fighting to the point of drawing blood, I am very anxious if I introduce girls and generally it doesn't always go very well to start with.

I definitely think animals know whether we like them or not without even getting close to us. I have a friend who isn't an animal person at all. Schmichael, my little house rabbit, goes up to everyone who comes into my house to check them out and rub his chin over their shoes! He loves shoes! However when this particular friend comes around he doesn't go anywhere near her. He never even went over to see what sort of reaction he would get.

Animals generally seem to like me and I have even had cats come and sit on my lap to the amazement of their owners who have said they never go to anyone! Maybe its because I smell of piggy and rabbit so they need to investigate! LOL I can't go into the house of anyone with dogs without leaving my shoes outside because I just won't be left alone. I guess the fact that schmichael has put his scent all over my shoes with his chin rubbing, gets them all excited!

Oh I think animals are very tuned in to atmosphere and moods in their environment.

The animal / human bond can be very strong, too many stories of animals helping people etc for it to be just a coincidence.

I think where the animal really benefits is where WE can tune into THEIR moods ................................. now that's a real gift. :)

I think you have a point about the bonding of piggies and I was very calm about it this time, mainly because I knew Timmy wouldn`t actually attack a baby. I set up the neutral run and just left them to it :)
I also think they can sense if we are nervous when picking them up etc, as I have grown more confident, they have been much easier to handle and been more willing to be picked up etc :)

When i yell with a piggy in my hand (dont mean to) :-\ but my piggys are always scared and there ears go right back :(

i think animals love me! Lol.
Whenever i've gone to see a new pet or anything like that the pet has always come to say hello.
When i used to ride whenever i was scared the horse would mis-behave when i was calm it was great!

When Paddy died a few weeks ago, Schmichael had followed me upstairs to bed as he always does. We went into the Piggy Room to check they all had food and water and I found Paddy gasping for breath. Normally Schmichael likes to run round the room and chase me across the landing and into the bathroom, but when he saw me lift Paddy out of the cage he just went quiety back downstairs. Once he comes up for the night he doesn't go back downstairs until early morning but it was as though he knew something was seriously wrong. When I went back downstairs later I found him sitting very quiety in the lounge.

He's a lovely boy! :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: He often sits next to the piggy cages all night. I woke up one morning and could hear so much noise coming from the Piggy Room! They were being as loud as when I go in with food! I got out of bed to investigate and Schmichael was jumping around the room and they were all stood at the bars wheeking loundly at him! It was as though he was entertaining them! :D
