I am in an uncomfortable situation, I friend of mine who is a nanny, called me this evening to say her employers rabbit has just been PTS and they have the guinea pig left, I knew that the guinea lived with the rabbit, as i see the nanny alot as her little charge is best friends with my daughter,
Anyway the nanny has said that they would like one of my guineas(i have a large herd) to go with theres, i tried to explain about whether it is a boar and had it been done and the difficulty in pairing up, well you know the drill about sows and boars, and also guinea pigs can be quiet complex with rearguards to there social skills, the nanny appeared to be a bit shocked at how in depth i had gone ;D
But they also put their animals out in all weathers, something i am not happy about,

anyway bottom line is how can i educate these people on looking after there pets especial if they have one of my pampered pets on how to do it without offending them(very good at doing that offending people :-\)

I would welcome any pointers on this.

them

Sometimes though it doesn't matter how much you try and 'educate' people, they won't listen anyway once you're gone. Do you think they would listen and act on your recommendations if you did take the time to explain everything to them? :-\

well she is a doctor and i really nice person, but the nanny said they have very little to do with the animals, don't et me wrong they are well fed and have a beutiful clean cage, but they are just looked after not held and cuddled! oh what should i do, our daughters will be going to the same school i am goint o have a lot to do with them and don't want to muck it up!

AAAARRRRHHHHH stop the world i wanna get off! ;D

oh god, i don't know. What about your friend - educate her, she can get them out with the kids?

If you are not happy with letting one of your piggies go to them say. All you have to say is they are all paired up and they cannot be sepperated, who cares if you have to lie, if you are not happy, dont do it. Also if you are not happy with the fact that they dont get held and cuddled, which your's do, that will be a big shock to it.

You know what i think i have come up with an idea, i might ask if she would like me to take the guinea off her hand so she can get a some more rabbits, that would solve a BIG prob,

OK OK tuffty badge graciously excepted ;D ;D

that would resolve a huge prob

Or you could invite her round to yours & show her how its done. And specify if one of yours went to her it would have to be kept under the same conditions because it will make it ill by having it live outside etc etc

That's a good idea, either that or a little white lie like tom_cat suggested wouldn't hurt if it saves all the worry ;)

Sorry to play devils advocate here but if you take the piggy and encourage them to get more rabbits, wont the new rabbits be out in all weathers and facing a life of no cuddles?
Sorry to point that out.

If it was me I would politely and gently tell my friend that I am not prepared to hand over one of my own as I'm not 100% in agreement with how the bun / pig were cared for in terms of love and freedom and stimulation. Food and a clean bed is only half the story and this I feel needs to be made clear.
For a start they should not really have been living together.

If the care givers are prepared to have a brief home visit vfrom you and learn properly about the care that gps need then fine. But if not then sorry.

yes have thought of that, but the thought of the piggy having to deal with a new rabbit in is cage just makes me cringe, i am hoping to talk to her tommorrow with any luck, well will be able to sex the little thing! but will keep you posted,
