Hello, my little guy is suffering UTI. He have antibiotics and painkillers, and I'm also giving him some probiotics. He is quite active and eating still. Poop seems to be normal, but I'm not sure can he really pee. Vet helped him to pee by pushing gently his tummy. I would like to try it too, just in case - cause he seems a bit swollen. But how to do it? I think i have to get penis out first, but then what? Is there any specific area where to push? Or should i even try to do it by myself?

How long has he been on antibiotics?
If he on painkillers twice a day/what dose?
Is he still eating plenty of hay for himself? Are you weighing him daily to ensure his hay intake is normal?
Is he drinking voluntarily? It may be he is getting enough water for his veg if he is still eating it normally.

If he is not peeing at all for himself, then please take him back to the vet. Please dont try to do anything yourself.

How long has he been on antibiotics?
He has been on antibiotics four days now, still six to go.

If he on painkillers twice a day/what dose?
Once a day, 0,4ml

Is he still eating plenty of hay for himself?
He is, maybe not as much as usually, but still many times / day.
Is he still eating veg?
Yes he is, especially pepper, cucumber and some salads.

Is he drinking voluntarily? It may be he is getting enough water for his veg if he is still eating it normally.
Oh, thanks. This might be the reason for not peeing so much. My piggies are not drinking much, unlike my earlier ones. They tend to drink quite a lot.

If he is not peeing at all for himself, then please take him back to the vet. Please dont try to do anything yourself.

Okay, i wont. Thanks for this. I just keep hunting pee :D, and if nothing comes, i`ll give him water with syringe maybe...

Unless there's an obstruction of some sort, he should be able to pee on his own, even with a UTI. It might hurt some, but he will be able to do it. I would just try to increase the water a bit (sometimes when my pigs had UTIs I would rinse their veggie treats in water and not dry them to encourage a bit more water intake.) I would also sometimes put the pig with the urinary problem in a private enclosure on a towel so that when they did pee I would see the amount and the color to check for blood. I would try this- if you see he isn't peeing at all, don't try anything yourself but contact the vet to rule out a stone or obstruction. Hope this helps a bit!

Thanks for your help all! <3

Yes, i changed beddings for white ones, so i can monitor the color. I'm also cleaning cage daily to see if there is soft stool. I also started to give him water a bit more, cause i read the antibiotics could make sediment to urea. He had x-ray last week. There were some sediment, but not stones...

I'm quite sure he peed at least once after i gave painkillers and water this afternoon. Gosh, this is so stressing every time piggies are not well. :O

Just adding support.
Dealing with a sick piggy is emotionally and physically draining.
You sound as if you’re doing a great job for your boy.
Don’t forget to look after yourself too.

Thanks for the support <3. Yes, it is quite stressful. One moment you are noticing signs of a piggie getting better - but it can change so quickly.
