I have 7 guinea pigs living together, 5 sows and 2 boars. Today I noticed two places where they had urinated and one spot was very dark and the other I think had drops, tiny, very tiny drops of blood. I have checked all 7 of them and none of them have any cuts or marks of blood. I am concerned one of them has an UTI. How do I find out which one quickly? I can separate them one by one is a small transporter, but if they don't pee or take a while, this could take too long (imagine it's the last one I put on their own)...any suggestions please?

To be honest that is the best way of doing it. We always syringe some water flavoured with probiotic carefully and slowly to them. This tends to speed the weeing process up. Hope you can find who it is quickly.

Could you put a divider in your cage for an hour or so splitting the group in half to narrow down the possibilities? At least then you'll know that it's 1 pig out of a group of 3, rather than 6. Then, as Sport_billy has said, it's a case of separating them and waiting for each to wee individually. A slice of cucumber of celery can also help speed things up.

I only have two pigs, so it's a shorter process, but the only way I've figured it out is to feed them a high-water treat like cucumber and separate them until they both pee. It's tedious sometimes with two, and even more so with seven! Good luck- I hope you find out who it is quickly!

As mentioned before, when i’ve had to take a wee sample i’ve taken my pigs out, syringed them a bit of water, left them with some nice watery cucumber usually when i was it i don’t dry it just leave it wet for extra water and then just sit and wait with them sat in a washing up bowl so i can collect them sample after, is there anyway you could maybe do two at a time ?

I have been there with 12 piggies...

Either you wait until is more obvious who it is. Or you can separate the piggies in batches on light towels and then see after an hour two in which subgroup there are signs. then repeat the process with the subgroup to find the individual culprit .... Sadly, there are no quick solutions! It doesn't help that at the very beginning of a UTI, not every pee is red and that not every red pee necessarily contains blood (I have been there!).

Thanks to all of you. I did separate them one by one. They all peed, no blood for any of them. Of course I am happy but concerned. I am keeping a look out in case it happens again. Nothing so far.

it can be very much a waiting game... I hope that it is nothing!
