Hello :)

Ive seen lots around, that people struggle to litter train their piggies, however I am successful so I thought I would share my tips on litter training your guinea pigs! (Please note, I'm no expert and this is only from personal experiences, every piggy is different and maybe its just luck that my guineas could be litter trained!)

What you will need:
Guinea pigs (obviously!)
A litter tray (preferably) or box
Litter
Bedding (eg sawdust)
Newspaper or something similar
Pegs or something to use to clip up

1. Place your litter tray or box in the corner of your guinea pigs' cage/play area/ where ever they are living. I think it is better using a plastic litter tray rather than a cardboard box because after a few uses the box with become to soggy and will need to be replaced. It needs to be in the corner because this is where your guinea pigs like to go to the toilet in, you have probably noticed this when cleaning out their cage in the past.

2. Fill about 1/2 of the litter tray with litter, and the rest with bedding. Put more litter in the corners. The litter underneath helps to absorb the urine whilst the bedding on top is a lot comfier.

3. Your guinea pigs like a little privacy so clip onto the cage/ anywhere possible if during floor time, some newspaper or anything that will make the litter tray shadier. You could ever put a box around, although, this may lead your piggies to sleep in the litter tray which may get them dirty.

4. This is not necessary but to start off you may wish to put some poop in the litter tray to almost tell your guinea pigs that the litter tray is where they poop. Although you may not need to do this.

5. Just place your guineas back into their cage (unless they are already in it) and go back to whatever you're doing. At first you may have to put any poops that are in the cage into the litter tray.

I hope this helped, sorry if it doesn't work for your piggies. The first time you try this, you may want to use a box just to see if they do use it, and then buy a litter tray afterwards. Instead of spending money on one and then they don't use it after all. :) x
