dear all,

we have had our first guinea pigs for about 2 weeks. They are only 9 weeks old- their mum rejected them at 5 weeks, and we bought them at 7 weeks. We've spent the last 2 weeks taming them, and gaining their trust with food, and treats etc... but today they need to go to the vets because we think they may have mites, but we need to catch them first., they are very fast! they live in a big c & c type cage with boxes and tubes etc... they will no doubt try and run away and hide... they have never been picked up before.

any advice...please!

do you think we should remove the boxes and tubes etc so they cant hide?

any other suggestions?

thanks

First of all welcome to the forum, you've come to the right place for advice. Have you got anything such as a cosy that they will go into then take it out with the piggy inside. You could also try with a tube picking it ip with a hand at each end when the piggy is inside.

Wait till they run into a house/tube and pick the whole thing up, from there on they're easy to catch.

Thank you all very much for your help and advice its been really useful, thank you.
