Has anyone used this? I had a discount coupon from zooplus so I ordered some extra hay then I was wondering what else to buy to get free delivery and this came up as recommended- Hugro hemp bedding, £20 for 100 litres which makes it less than half the price of the kaytee paper bedding we usually have in half the cage! It looks like wood shavings but with an enormous leaf on the bag...

I've not heard of Hugro Hemp bedding but I have used Aubiose hemp bedding before. The Aubiose is very absorbant and I just had to take out the wee'd on bits every couple of days. I found it not suitable for use for me though where I have outside piggies and if it was slightly windy on a clean out day it was a complete nightmare for me as it blew all over the garden and it looked like it had snowed. I went back to my puppy pads and loads of hay which I find works best for me and my piggies.

Thanks @Betsy I'll give it a try anyway, it was so cheap, the main concerns are if it sticks to the fleecy things or like you say it looks so light and fluffy a mad piggy chase might kick it all over the carpets!

I use Aubiose too. And I really like it.

They can kick it all over the place though. But it's no biggie

Going to try the hemp bedding today, seeing as the bag is too big to carry upstairs and put away!

Piggies aren't sure... its a different texture to walk on and makes a rustling sound against the newspaper... on the plus side they leave adorable little piggy footprints in it!

I use hemparade from zooplus for the guinea pigs litter trays which is good. I put newspaper on top so it doesnt get trodden onto the fleece cage liners.

Rodent keepers in Germany use this a lot. I’ve used similar substrates but I have found they spread very easily!

The Hugro Cotton stuff ...... I tried that for my degus once - it was a similar consistency to Carefresh (not fluffy like the dangerous stuff) ....... but it smelt very odd. Then..... I saw something (like a big spider leg but large and stripy) sticking out of the bag and when I investigated it - the ‘thing’ moved of its own accord! :vom::yikes: I chucked it away and have never dared to try it again!

I'm worried they are eating it... they are definitely snuffling around in it a lot more than they do with paper bedding... hopefully they are just looking for spilled pellets but it does look a bit like oats... are piggies daft enough or greedy enough to mistake hemp for porridge? I guess we just watch "food canary" bloaty Puggle very closely and stand by with the ranitidine if she inflates suddenly from hemp consumption... bloody piggy divas! Nothing is ever simple, is it?!
