i was stroking my guinea pig when i seen 2 black marks on her skin. 1 of them is bigger then the other and there are not raised can any1 help me

Think people may need more info.

How big? How dark? Did they move? Has the hair gone? etc etc, maybe also pics?

:)

how funny you just noticed them? i wonder if they are just like birth marks or something. Or maybe like spots on a dalmation dog as they are also on the skin arent they?

I'm gonna follow this thread to find out, I'm intrigued ;)

how would she of got mites thou she has never been out

and you can just see them when you move her fur back

could you post a picture has its very hard to say what it is really:{ has the hair thinned out at all where the bauld patches are?

guinea have bauld patches behind their ears!

sometime guinea pigs had a V shape of hairloss or thinning down the bottom of their back if they have mites!

i will get a picture tomorrow as she is fast asleep atm and they is no thinning of her fur that i have noticed

how would she of got mites thou she has never been out

they dont need to have been out to get mites they can get it from hay shavings straw if you use it, and some guinea pigs are prone to mites and can have flare ups when ever. if its mites and its not treated assuming it is mites in some server cases if left untreated they can die..

almost every guinea pig that comes into rescue here has mites even my own get them its some thing no guinea pig can get away from no matter how well you look after your pet..

any treatment you use for mites MUST have ivermectin in it if it doesnt it will not work..pet shop sprays dont work bephar does spot on treatment which contains ivermectin..

how old is your guinea pig?

but as i say it could be nothing it hard with out seen a picture these are the things that jump out at me but i could be way off the mark and it may be nothing at all...:)

she is 9 month old and how would i know if it is mites?

these are some of the signs...

. Hairloss..-can indicate lice too

.Thinning of the hair-typical V shape down the bottom of the back.....

.moulting more than normal....

. when stroking look at your hand to see if their are any black specks on your hand...in white/light coloured guinea pigs black specks in the hair

. Dandruff ...

. scratching..can indicated lice too

. black dirty looking ears- indicates ear mites

. scratches/scabs from scratching can indicate fungal, lice, mites

. can also become more irritable than normal
