i was stroking my guinea pig when i noticed 2 black marks on her skin they were about the size of a 5p i havent noticed any thinning of her fur as when i got her from the pet shop she always had a little hair behind her ear she is 9 month old and i am scared incase it might be mites they are not raised

Hi love where abouts are these marks?
If they're directly behind the ear and there's no flakey skin or anything it's just their little bald patches i think (and please some one correct me) it's to keep them cool?

thats what the black mark looks like

Hi Kirsty, it is quite hard to tell from your photo, as such I couldn't really say with any certainty what the problem is, so if you are worried do check with a good vet.

One of my sows is mostly white, but has a small circle of black skin - I will get a photo for you. I don't know the cause of her black mark, it appears to just be pigmentation (rather like we humans can get freckles/moles), but of course I do keep a close eye to ensure it does not grow/spread.

Thanks for the advice I have booked her in at the vets on Monday so will see what is
