that shopping list which sammy gave you the link to is brilliant, i still use that now O0

Have a look at this link http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=47.0

I give my pigs a variety of veggies per day. I also give a teacup full of pellets each lots of hay which is most important and readigrass for supper or dinner. :)

Hay makes up 80% of the diet
Veggies 15% and pellets 5%

There is no need for treats or adding anything to the water like vit c drops as they should get the required vit c from veggies. I give peppers as they contain a lot of vit c especially red and green but go easy on the red as they are high in sugar.

Cavy diet is a lot to take in, try not to give foods that contain too much calcium as that can lead to bladder sludge and thats not good for older pigs. If you need anything just ask and welcome to the forum! :)

Thank you guys a lot!

just a wierd question....

do you think i should add a poll to think whitch veggie is the best i think i should...

i think there already is one but you do do another? i think cucumber is a favourite :)

In my opinion no veggies it the best, one pig may like cabbage another may not touch it with a barge poll. Cucumber is always a favourite but it has high water content.

I would go for greens 3 other veggies and 1/8 pepper per pig per serving. Aldi is really cheap and I try to buy in bulk. I tried mine with cauliflower last week and they loved it! That really did suprise me. I would just try them with different things to get a feel for what they like but if they are only young don't over do it as too much to soon can upset them. :)

and avoid iceberg lettuce O0

everyone seems to think they can have it, my mum moaned when i told her not to feed it to them ::)

oh i thought you meant favourite veggies not whats best for them 98) ;D yeah like Louise said i think its important for them to have a varied diet :)

yeh i mean i have been giving mine apple, carrot, broccoli, grass and hay - as well as gerty guinea hard feed.

Lettuce is an odd thing, you think its ok for them but it's everything in moderation. My vet said just as choccie isn't good for us too much of one veg is bad for pigs. Iceberg is a no no as Lez said. I feed mine Curly, Round, Romaine and small Cos but only 1 leaf per pig per serving as I was feeding it too much and was getting bladder sludge in the boys hutch! :(

i use little gem lettuce as mine dont like any other kind

just gave them spring cabbage for the first time tonight they are going crazy for it!

my mum managed to get a whole cauliflower from work for free :D they were giving them away

they were giving parsley away too but she didnt get any as she didnt know if my "fussy pigs" would eat it ::)

I never gave my piggies lettuce when I first got them cos everyone said it would give them diahoerea(cant spell it)but I now know its just iceberg to avoid they love all other sorts especially Cos and Webbs
