my poh, syrian has passed away today, which we were expecting as he was old but i have just gone to fed the piggies in the run and Hazel who was just over a year old was lying in one of the houses dead. :0 I am so gutted and cant stop crying. How the heck has this happened? she was one of the lively ones and not one syptom of illness. I check over them every other day and she seemed one of the healthest in there. What could have happened? My brain is just going mad here as I cant think what has happened to her. She lived with her dad,mum and 2 sisters, and now i am worrying that this will happen again :( I have checked her over and no bumps, cuts or anything. Her mouth is all watery, but before this nothing. Should I get the vet to find out why she died? I am not sure if this is expensive? I am just totally gutted :(

I am so sorry for your loss. It is so sad and confusing to understand why animals are taken away with no obvious signs of illness.

I personally, wouldn't get the vet to do a check, at the end of the day it won't bring her back and it could be unlikely that they can't find the exact cause.

Thinking of you. Big hugs. x

thank you. Maybe I should just bury her in the garden and leave her to rest. I am just gutted and my bf cant believe it neither, with no signs of being ill, not one, I am going to be thinking what the heck happened.

She could have had a heart attack to have gone so suddenly, there is nothing you could have done. I am so sorry, it is heartbreaking to lose a beloved pet. I agree that a PM wont bring her back and would be expensive :(

I am so sorry Natasha that you are having to go through this :0 Poor Poh and Hazel :( There is nothing that you could have done and I agree that a PM isn't necessary. It will only add to you heartache and will not bring her back. Take comfort that her and Poh travelled to the bridge together and I bet that they are watching over you now. Sleep peacefully Poh and Hazel xx
P.S one of my rats died suddenly a few months back with no sign of illness. It was her sister that was ill with chest infections and it is difficult to get your head around

thank you for your kind thoughts. I have just buried her along with Poh in the back garden where my other animals are buried. I was just thinking maybe it was a heart attack. Her eyes were completely open too and i have never had that with any one of my lost pets. Does that mean something if her eyes were open?

So sorry for your losses.
At least both are now at peace and no doubt having fun at the bridge.
I would say she had a heart attack as it was so suden.
Am thinking of you at this sad time

So sorry for your loss. I lost a sow suddenly a couple of weeks ago and I know how you must be feeling. She hadnt shown any signs of illness and was also in her home with her eyes open when I found her. Sometimes its just meant to be and the rainbow bridge angels come for the piggy very suddenly. If she had been ill you would have picked up on something so try and take comfort from the fact that she had a wonderful life with you and will be running free over the bridge. Thoughts are with you..

Oh love i am so so sorry to hear this 8...8...8...
RIP Hazel run free at the bridge little one, enjoy the big hammie wheel and chattering to the other hammies xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))))))))) and special loves for Nat from me xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

So sorry Natasha we lost Elora like this, no signs of illness at all she was one of my healthiest chubbiest girlies. I think she had a heart problem, her mum and sister all died around the same time so it would seem a genetic problem.

We also lost Pearl two weeks ago she had sudden tummy problems and although we tried to make her better she died 5 hours later. I still have moments where I can't believe I won't see her popcorning again!

It's awful loosing them without any cause. I wouldn't do a PM I think they cost about £60. Only money isn't an issue with guinea pig care. As long as the others are ok. My girls got a little down last week through missing Pearl so just keep an eye on yours I'm sure they will be fine though. :)

(((Hugs)))

I am so sorry for both your losses. Rest well, sweet Poh and dear Hazel. xx

Thank you for all your kind words. I have let her rest in peace now and she’s buried out the garden with the other animals. My mind was just working over time trying to get to sleep last night, cos we still just couldn’t believe it. I got up early this morning to make sure everyone else was ok, and they were. I look a right mess in work today, my eyes look so tired from crying so much. I am going to keep a close eye on everyone else and if anyone has any signs of anything, a trip to the vets it will be.RIP Hazel and Poh – you will be missed dearly.Love mummy xxxxx

So sorry to read this ... you poor thing!

It is really horrible and upsetting when unexpectedly a much loved piggy passes away ... it is easy to think why? ... was it something I have done.

A sudden passing away like this can be a heart attack. My Fizz went suddenly while we were away on holiday and my daughter rang me but all I could hear was ".... has died". I thought it was Joey, who had been poorly for a long time, but it wasn't. I made her take Fizz to the vet to check she was dead ... mad or what considering she is a nurse?! rolleyes

Guinea pigs can mask illnesses very well but I am sure that most of us on here can spot a tiny change in our piggies as we know them so well.

I hope you are feeling a little better now ... remember the good times. Run free Hazel and Poh xx

I am so sorry to hear about Hazel & Poh. 8...8... It is always devastating when we lose our piggies - expected or unexpected. I am glad you didn't have a PM. As everyone else has said it won't change thing & I believe my piggies wouldn't want it. They would want to be left alone & I am sure yours did too.

Now they will be at peace - running free over the bridge with all the other piggies who have gone before them.

Hold onto the memories of Hazel & Poh.

Hugs & squeaks from my manly quintet - Jerry, Legolas, Pippin, Billy & Bobby

love

Michele

It seems empty in the cage now, cos there was five and now only 4, they have just over 9 ft in length of space and it seems weird and empty without the fifth one in there. I spent £70 on new toys yesterday for the piggies, cos I was feeling a bit down. Some large coloured fiddle sticks to brighten up the runs and some other stuff too. Not one piggy squeaked at me last night when I went to fed them. I felt quite upset again! Silly me.

Aww lucky pigs. It takes them time to adjust especially if you passed piggy was a big part of the group. Pearl was and mine missed her, they seem better this week.

(((hugs))) x

Give them lots of love & tell them that she is OK & safe now. Well, that's what I always do. But love, hugs & time is what it takes. They will be quiet &it is hard to see, but they know you love them x

Aw, I'm so sorry, its always such a horrible shock to lose one like this when they seem so full of life, and especially with your little hammy going too.

Big hugs from me and the pigs, hope you're OK. Maybe Poh will hook up with my Gus and Suggs in hammie heaven..

x
