Need to have a bit of a moan (I know this is going to come across judgey but tbh I don't really care..)
Just been on Gumtree looking for a run for the garden for the pigs, and I am sick of seeing ad after ad of people getting rid of their pets for what I think are terrible reasons.
One ad is for a pair of 6 month old pigs and the reason "getting rid because we got a puppy" !
Another common reason is that "the children have lost interest in them" I'm sorry, but as a parent you need to be prepared to take care of them if your kids lose interest, what lesson is that teaching your children.
And the cheek of some of these people asking upwards of a hundred quid for their pets along with tiny tiny cage, then act like they are doing you a massive favour!
Yes I do totally understand that that there are unforeseen circumstances and in some cases is is better to rehome a pet, but I just seem to be seeing page after page of people getting a 'cute, little easy to care for pet' without doing any research only to get bored, ignore it and get rid a few months later!
Grrrrr.

Ahh feel better now haha.
I don my hazmat suit and wait to be flamed....

Haha you are preaching to the converted on here. Many of us have up looking at free ads sites years ago for the very same reason. Those that have a genuine reason for rehoming would be more likely to find a rescue space for them

I'm glad I'm not the only one.
I only go on looking for a bargain but I think I'll take your advice and stay off as it plays on my mind (as well as making me bleeping angry!)

or continue to use it but stay away from the pets for sale part. Gumtree separates pets accessories from pets for sale which helps

Thanks Lady Kelly I didn't realise I could separate the search results, I just type in 'Guinea Pig' in case anyone is selling runs, carriers, C&C grids, but it always brings up animals for sale :(

Cavy Kung-Fu (love the name btw, makes me think of the film G-Force) I seem to kill any plants I have, maybe I over water them :hmm: but I know what you mean, it makes me wonder what the person who got rid of the GPs to get a puppy, will do when said puppy wakes them in the night, or poos on the sofa, maybe they will get shot of that too!
I can't help lose respect for people like that, and it's left to the rescues to pick up the pieces.

I usually go through the categories and then just search within that category :)

I have recently got four hamsters and a guinea pig through gumtree. There are some genuine people selling as well. All the owners (ex owners) were ever so nice and very glad that their pets were going to a good home.

Mind you the excuses like the kids got board ... !! Haha they are kids what the beep did you expect?!

Hope you find a decent run.

Haha thanks! I choose it because I remembered the dancing and Kung-fu dolls you used to be able to get, think they were piggies :D

I keep cacti, succulents and air plants as I know I can't kill them by neglecting to water them :))

Yep they'll probably discard any animal that displeases them. This is why I hate people!

Thank you.
I am honestly a caring, understanding person and try not to be judgemental, I just hate to see poor pets pushed from pillar to post because people didn't think it through, I'm sure that most people start out with good intentions and want the best for their animals. I was just having a moan haha :)
I know you can never rely on kids to be consistant (learnt that the hard way after my daughter asked me to make her a certain b'day cake, £50 and many many hours of hard work later she decides she doesn't like that character anymore:hb:)
I'm glad you found your new pets and they benefited from a caring new home with you.

Oooh yeah I remember those, they were pigs I think or maybe hamsters :hmm:. I had a toy gorilla that danced and sang macarena when you clapped your hands :xd:

Haha yea I wasn't sure if they were piggies or hamsters in hindsight :))

Ugh huge pet peeve when someone dumps an animal because they decided to get another one! When you get an animal that is a commitment, don’t take on Mire and then dump your “old” ones!
