I don't know.... help me please

My friend came around yesterday and was looking at my guinea pig setups while I made lunch. She hasn't ever had pigs just rabbits and dogs. During lunch she said "they are disgusting animals."

Me: What?
Her: The Guinea Pigs, they're disgusting
Me: No they're not, don't be silly.
Her: They are. Just like your stupid rats.
Me: My rats are not stupid! Don't talk about my animals like that!
Her: You say that as if they should be pets.
Me: They're domestic, it's not like I got them from a field.
Her: Well that's where they belong.
Me: It's not and they're staying put.
Her: Well, we'll see about that, won't we?

Thing is I'm going out today and my friend needs to come round and baby sit my niece. It might seem stupid, I've told her leave my animals alone they will be fine, but I think she might... well, put them outside. I know it sounds crazy but she is odd, she is really childish.

I don't know what to say or do right now.
 
hmmm,well after those comments i would have told her to get out quick smart,i cannot stand people who say they are my friends and then upset me by saying mean things about people or animals that i care about,i have lost around 10 friends due to them being like that,and just remember your animals can't speak you are there voice and protection x
 
so many people tell me rodents are vermin, shame then that all my mini family are rodents! they dont understand how clever, funny, lovely, cute, loving and mind blowingly awesome they are.

your "friend" has no right to do anything to them. let us know what happens xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
 
Yes my mother says they are rats! How can she say that? To me they are more like bunnies with no ears! :(|)

In the words of a Scouse nutcase (me) I would sack you friend off! Get rid, you don't need people lile that! My motto is if you cannot be respectful to ALL animals then what does that say about you as a person?

Mum and Dad will look after my animals when we are away but I think with mum she is weary of getting a bite she isn't brave with animals, she had a budgie once called Beuaty and treated him like he was a lion! rolleyes

Good luck with the so called friend! Guineas in the wild...no clue whatsoever! mallethead

With friends like that who needs enemies! What a thing to say!

There are more species of rodent than of any other animal group in the world. Nearly 40 percent of all mammal species are rodents, making them among the most successful animals on earth.
 
My own grown up kids say horrid things about my piggies when they visit, they too call them rats and I just tell if if they don't like it, don't visit! :))

It does hurt my feelings though :(

My 'best' friend, or maybe I should reword that to my 'oldest' (as in the time we have been friends, not age) has been totally scathing about my animals at times. She thinks it's disgusting that I have them in the house. Can't believe what I pay out for vet bills, and when I mentioned the other week about going to go and collect Zach's ashes, said 'and how much do you pay to get a guinea pig cremated? You are totally mad!'. There was no, oh I'm really sorry to hear you have lost one of your precious pets! which surely a friend would say. At times it does make me question who my true friends are.
 
I would tell her to 'trott on' ........ who needs friends like that!
 
If anyone ever came into my house and called my animals disgusting I would turf them out! If that person moved my pigs for whatever reason they would have hell to pay!
 
Thats awful Debbie! People think they are replaceable. That they have all the same personalities but they don't! I've not got one who is the same, thats why I love them!

I know I am a huge dog lover but I think guineas are my number one! rolleyes
 
If she thinks your piggies belong in a field I wonder how she would feel if you told her her rabbits belong in one. My tutor used to call the piggies giant hamsters and if one was ill he'd say I'd be better off drowning it rather than taking it to the vets because he does that with his daughters hamsters because he's not wasting a penny on them grrrr
 
What a nutter lol! Yeah everyone calls my guineas hamsters! Dad did but you know I think they are growing on him he has just be cooing over Leia! :(|)

Have you seen the notice you can buy? Mine came from RoSAH GP Rescue Lincolnshire.

Ive got that sign up to, its very true as well.

I would also remind your friend that guineas are mammels as is she, so maybe she should go live in a feild to, hopefully she wont take much notice if she doesnt like them

just a question how would i get one in oz because i am sick of allowing people into my home and then finding out they think my piggies are worthlessgrrrr
 
I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hope that you can find somebody else for your niece asap - I wouldn't let her in my place EVER AGAIN!

I can understand that some people are uncomfy about rodents; but as long as they accept that I have them, I can live with that!

I agree with you Vickyt,

To me my animals are family and are respected as such...and fed, watered...etc !
I'm lucky,no-one i know would insult my animals as i'm pretty sure they know how much i care for them.To insult my pets is to insult me.

I'm not too fond of rabbits but i wouldn't even think about saying that to the owner of one ! You just dont- it's called respect and no friend would insult a friend's pet.

To be honest i'd rather be best mates with my pets than a lot of humans !
 
i think the thing to do here would be to try and agree to disagree.
you might think your opinions are totally valid (and obviously everyone here agrees with you, as do i) but she thinks the same about her opinions, and in her mind, she probably thinks your views are just as peculiar as you do hers.
i'd say to her that, if she has an opinion of your pets, that she's totally entitled to it. ignorance is bliss, as they say, and she has no experience of guinea pigs. i've often found that people who have never owned them are surprised at how cuddly and friendly mine are. however, this should not extend to her doing anything to your pets while you're out, as it's not her business how you keep them and she has no right or reason to go near them.
tell her that you'll accept her opinion if she'll accept yours and leave them alone.
but personally i don't know why you'd want to be friends with someone like that.
 
If a friend upset me over something [*]they know [/*]means alot to me, they are no freind of mine.

I'm looking into getting one myself if I can Bonnie - if I find them I'll send one on to you! Probably the easiest way to do it. :)
 
that is really mean of her, ignore her, would`nt trust her near my piggies or rats either, childish i know but i would have said her bunny would make a lovely stew! and please don`t all start shouting i have two buns and love them very much..:)p:)p
