I've had my guineapigs for 4 months now, one of those months was spent in boarding because I was moving home so really it's only three months... how long does it take for them to bond and be comfertable in their new homes?

x

I would say it depends on the pigs. Some are people-piggies some aren't so much. 3 months isn't long at all really so I wouldn't worry at the moment. I've had my boys almost 2 years and still get the impression that I'm pestering them when I go for cuddles and chats :)) I can almost hear them thinking 'hurry up and go away - we were having fun before you turned up. Now you want to stroke us or pick us up or talk to us in a silly voice...or...even worse...bath us!'

Mine look so sociable and friendly when it is veggie time, the rest of the time their slave (me) just gets in their way.

my Marty Pig is a rescue and has been with me for over a year and is still jumpy, however he has just started talking, they'll loosen up eventually drool

My living room lot aren't overly fond of people but love me when it's food time. Buzz adn Woody are a lot friendlier, I think it depends on the individual piggies.

Are they indoors? Don't think he will be cold if so. But wouldn't have said scared either.

nothing in my entier life has every been scared of me, be it animal child or elderly person... i'm not an intimidating person. I even lower my level when I go to pick them up and try to keep a calm heart and breathing....

They are indoors, Id be too scared to leave them outside x

I don't know what i'm doing wrong... :(

xx

I'm sure he loves you but is still getting used to his new home and a new way of life. I was quite persistent with my baby boy, i have kept stroking him and cuddling him and I will take the house out of his bed to make him come out more. Make them have cuddles! Feed them at the same time if you can so then he will associate you with something good x

I'm trying to stick to the same routine but I suffer from mental conditions so sometimes getting out of bed is harder than it should be. This is my routine so far see if you think I should change anything?

8am - feeding, pellets and some fresh veg (varies whatever was on offer at sainsburys LOL)

Because I am using fleece I then sweep out any poops they've made, and then I sweep the floor.

Then I go about my house and do cleaning tidying whatever and around mid day they get another little snack of some veg...

After that they get some hugs and attention and stuff.

then I go and relax for a little while get the shopping.
when i come back I clean them again

at 4 and 8 they get more veggies and pellets.

Then I usually sit with them and chat for a little while
Then I go to bed fairly early...

I give them hay periodically throughout the day...
they have toys

IDK :) xx

Mine have become more friendly when I started giving them food by hand - I give them the first few nuggets by hand before putting the bowls down, and sometimes I give them their veg on my lap.

Hey you, i just saw your reply on the 'how are you feeling right now' thread, i hope you are ok, i know nothing about depression/mental health etc, but i hate to think that people suffer.

Please dont give yourself a hard time about your pigs not liking you, i have had five pigs in total in my adult years, my first Sid was fab, my second two Salt & Pepper were ok, peps was best, but salt a bit stand offish, and if you went near the cage he would leg it, and the two i have now, stan & oscar flee the scene whenever i walk in the room.....unless i have food!

I just think they are skittish creatures and some are better than others, please dont think its to do with you?
