I feel bad

So, I've decided at some point I need to move the PC back upstairs to my room. Since I can't vape without the window open, if I'm vaping upstairs in my room I can have the window open and the door closed. In the living room, if the window's open, that cold air has a direct path to the goblins and they don't like it very much. I don't blame them.

However, til that's an option, I have to work out what to do with them during the day. I could close over their door, but I close over their door at night and they know that's bedtime, or at least I won't be in again til I open their door in the morning so they keep quiet. But if I start closing their door over during the day and open it for feeding I guarantee they'll start believing I'll feed them at night, too.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Go upstairs to vape with the window open and door shut? I know it’s an inconvenience but if your changing soon anyway it won’t be for long? Or give up vaping totally - more money to spend on the goblins!

Going up and down the stairs sets them off (well actually everything sets them off, lol), if I can find my glove I might start going to the doorstep again. As for quitting vaping...nah, quitting smoking's one thing, but I need that hand to mouth motion and what little nicotine the vape gives me. I just wish it wouldn't set the smoke alarms off.

May be if you close over their door and then keep opening it often but not to feed them they will stop associating it opening with food arriving? Then again your goblins seem very good at training you, not the other way round

I get needing that hand to mouth action. When I quit smoking I chewed my way through a lot of straws and inhaled empty air through them. (Vaping was not an option back then)

If it wasn't for their sheer volume I'd let them screech, but they are loud and willing to get louder, I can even hear them when I'm on the doorstep. So much noise.
