Any one else feel really awful that their piggies are confined in a flat in this glorious weather because they don't own a garden?
Do * think grass would grow in a sand pit or ball pit and then they could have an inside grassy area?

Yup, I feel awful too like I did last year! In an ideal world our piggies should be able to go out on the grass, the only consolation for me is that I know my piggies have a fantastic home and it could be a lot worse in another home who DO have grass!

Plus, rescues have re-homed to us with no gardens so we can't be that terrible. I do grow grass for mine so that they aren't completely missing out, and last year they came home with me for a long weekend and got to enjoy the grass then! Despite my attempt to convince you I still feel bad :)) mallethead!

They do get grass- I grow it or pinch it from my mums. But is not the same as letting them earn their keep with their professional lawn mowing skills he he

I know what you mean, I have a garden but its gravel :(
The only upside is that they have a very spacious c&c cage which is right near the back door so when it is really nice i leave it wide open so the sun is on the cage and the breeze blows in. I like to see them stand up at the bars sniffing the fresh air :))

I would but she has no hutchs and lives over an hour away and I work full-time. Even if she did I would worry because I know all there mannerisms and would know if they were ill my folks wouldnt- there skills are wasted ha ha!

I feel the same! I live in a maisonette on first and second floor so no garden either. The plan was to go to my parents house and use their garden, but they have now gone and got a puppy who is pooping and peeing all over the lovely grass so my pigs can't go there now :(

I've asked colleagues if I can offer their mowing services and they aren't keen.

Thanks for the link to the grass! I've bought some, hopefully I don't end up killing this plant!

Occasionally I do but then I think they're pretty happy, and have a lovely life indoors. My piggies, like most members, are rescues and some came from unloving homes. I am sure they don't miss what they don't remember or didn't have, and prefer being spoiled indoors!
The ready grass in the link above is fantastic if any of you don't have access to grass. It smells DIVINE! I get a massive bag from blend better that lasts about 6 months. Yesterday i scattered it all over the pen floor to make a garden :)) The boys love it. My husband however wasn't so pleased as I have M.E, and he is the one who will be cleaning it up :))

I too live in a flat. I have a back yard and I carry them down every day for lap time as the rescue said they need 10 mins a day to get the vitamin D from the sun. T bought a load of grass seed yesterday and I'm trying to grow some in the kitchen windows.

I put mine outside... they dont even like it. :) Dont stress. :) I'm sure they love all their veggies every evening just as much as grass!

They are terrified! i got them last spring, i tried all sorts, all spring and summer. They will munch and wonder a little, but only if i sit in the run with them.

Ive resorted to just cutting grass from the garden with scissors and bringing it in. mallethead

Bless- theo was scared but I assumed it was because he was alone when he was out. Maybe piggies that have always been indoors just feel too much like prey

I kept trying, because i didnt want tthem to be shut in all the time, but the reality is, they hated it! Whenever i can, i sit out with them. :) But i cant always do that for long.

I have a garden but I'm guilty for another reason. My piggie is a long haired black coronet so I don't dare put him outside. I've been trying to figure out how to get his hair nice and short as no matter how much I cut it doesn't seem to shorten. :(|)

I'd hate for him to overheat because of his colour.

Julesie! Icepods are the answer :) Grab a bottle, fill it with water, pop it in the freezer, wrap it in a teatowel, and lay it in the run :) He will ly next to it if he wants too cool down :) Plus ofc, drape a towel over the run for shade.

I feel that way a lot.
I think the piggies should have their own personnel garden world full of fresh fruits and veggies and hay, that automatically grow over and over again. And it could be miles and miles long, full of multicolored pigloos and plenty of wooden toys, and plenty of fresh water in little lakes that they can lap out of. And night, they come together, and cuddle up on the worlds softest, fluffiest fleece, and sing little piggy songs, and then fall to a peaceful sleep.
Oops, sorry I'm was fantasizing again:(|)

Ohh thank you so much! I'll have to put him out some time soon then. His poor partner wasn't getting any sun because I felt bad for Romano.

I have a black semi short haired piggy, (not that they like the outside) But i popped one in the cage last summer, and it was apreciated greatly. :)

I feel bad that I'm at work all day, leaving the boys cooped up in their hutches when they should really be out. Unfortunately, there's no secure way I can leave them out while I'm at work, and there's no-one I can ask to let them out. So they have to wait for me to get home at around 5.30 to get an hour's grass time :(

I feel really bad, we've only got a yard so I always think I'm being sly not having a garden!
But I'm always looking in people's gardens for grass for them, they must think I'm mental :/
Knocking on the doors, could I have some of your grass please!? It's only for my pigs!
I got them some today from my nans, was gone within a few seconds so gave them some more at bed time bet thats gone now!
Maisy & Daisy was helping me mum open the bag, love the reaction you get from piggie's when you give them grass!

I have a garden...but it never has any grass my dad plants a multitude of things each year so you're generally walking into a vegetable patch of some kind atm it's all dug over waiting for things to be planted.

I've tried telling him a lawn would be lovely but he disagrees lol. I took the pigs outside today and stood in the sunshine with them and they did huge sniffs bless them. I was planning on putting them on next doors grass as is a rented house but people moved in and they're a bit odd...mind they probably think I'm odder with the pigs :))

I feel the same way! My garden is patchy at best, but I was able to pick some grass for them at the weekend so they could munch away. They absolutely loved it! 2 days later there's a knock at my door: the landlady has hired a gardener to KILL OFF the garden with the idea of replanting it in a few months. So no more grass for my piggles :(

Rosierum that is very kind of you to offer your garden to other pigs! Maybe this will catch on around the rest of the country too. Guinea pig party in the garden!

The grow your own grass stuff arrived today and it is a tray with a pack of seeds. I am guessing I will need soil for this? I don't have any soil and went to a garden centre to get some but the soil comes in big bags and I just want a little bit! How have others done this? I'm thinking about all the soil in the local park...
