I feel like such a bad mummy!

i had my first accident when cutting nails this evening. I cut one of Amy's too short. she yelped at the time but I thought she was just being daft so finished her off before I realised! luckly though not bleeding much just a slightly red blood spot on the end of her nail

I feel so bad as she yelped and I was like Amy your ok don't be silly! :red

Luckly George got away unharmed! I'm now unnerved about doing my black pair tomorrow as I have never nicked any of them including the black ones (and i've been doing tiger's since feb/march) but it's made me a little nervous!

Aww, you accidently did it and they will be fine now, like you say it was only little. You poor thing! I take mine to the vets or pet shop as I'm too nervous to do it myself. I would have a go doing it, but just cut little bits off instead, like... not as far as you would usually. Just so you get your confidence back again. You are NOT a bad mummy!

awwww dont feel bad we've all done it. The best thing is to keep doing it to regain your confidence. you could wrap them up to keep them still and i find a light under the foot helps me see the quick easier. you will be extra careful from now on so i doubt you'll do it again lol

Until you have cut a nail too short you can't claim to have had much practical experience of guinea pigs!!

i am not sure that there are many people who have cut nails that can claim they never have cut a nail too short! I did it and felt so bad, also can't cope with animal blood and prompty fainted much to ohs amusement!

Don't feel bad as accidents do happen. You are not a bad piggy mum at all. I hate cutting my girls nails. Ellie isn't too bad but Eliza wiggles like mad so I may need to take her to the vets to have them cut next time x

Out of 12 pigs, I always catch at least one nail one one pig or another. I clipped all 168 piggie nails the other night, I cut 3 nails a little too short - it does not seem bad when you look at it overall.

1 out of 28 nails is actually very good, Briony.

I'll be blunt Briony...
A bad mummy probably wouldn't have even been cutting their guinea pigs claws!
A bad mummy probably wouldn't have even known they needed a little trim!
A bad mummy even if they did finally decide to cut their piggys claws wouldn't be feeling upset about cutting the claw too low and wouldn't care about doing it again...

None of these sound like you my dear, accidents happen and that is what it was, an accident you didn't set out to hurt little Amy and we all know and still firmly believe you are an amazing piggy mummy!

Definitely don't feel bad, it's so easily done. When my piggy Harvey was alive he was a nightmare, he had black claws, and I once cut it just a teeny bit too short, and it bled what seemed like masses. I understand, I felt terrible too, but I soon realised that I was far more bothered than him.

Since then I always feed grass and dandelions when I'm clipping claws, because I swear he was so engrossed in his grass he didn't even notice!

I had to clip all mnine this weekend, or at elast check and clip what was needed, is it me or do the quicks get longer with age? I have one piggy who I really think needs a claw trim but I can't because I can see the quick right up to the end...

Welcome to the 'Ive clipped my piggies nails to short' club! Its usually Matilda and Montomgery who are on the recieivng end of my butchery. They have black nails so much harder to judge the length. Montgomery is a nightmare when I'm cutting his nails. I have to swaddle him in a large towel but leave his legs free so I can clip his nails. He then concentrates on biting the towel, leaving my fingers intact!
