I have to share a room with the goblins tonight.

There's no way to explain this to them either, lol. It won't bother me as much as it will bother them tbh, and it's in aid of a good cause...I need somewhere to sleep if I'm taking the mattress out of the smaller room to move them into it, and I am, so it's a kick up the backside for me too. Except I'd been using the double bed as a storage area and I swear there's not enough room on the floor for everything.

I do like to make things awkward for myself. I can see angry letters heading for the GPU tomorrow.

Well, I got woken up not by the goblins, but to a soap opera going on in the tree in my garden. I could hear a couple of crows that sounded like they were screaming at each other but it was even better than that - two screaming crows, two very angry magpies, a calico cat at the bottom of the tree, and my long-haired tawny cat friend in the branches. The crows weren't screaming at each other and they weren't (for once) fighting with the magpies. Instead, the four long time enemies were working together against the invading kitty.

At 6am. :td:

Ah the joys of Mother Nature! And how did those poor, hard-done-by little goblins survive?

Wee Lu and I have the opposite issue - for the first time in nearly 12 years we are sleeping apart - with her chest infection she is snoring and keeping me awake. Usually she gets 3/4 of the bed and I get a strip of about 10 inches. I don’t know what to do in a whole double bed!

Thea is waiting to see if a letter is sent to the GPU as she isn't sure whether Camowen and Bann enjoyed sharing their room with Piggy Daddy or not. She doesn't want to write in anticipation of them not enjoying spending the night with Piggy Daddy in case they actually liked it!

Thea, I am reliably informed that if it had just been one night, they would have been fine, but unfortunately I've had to extend the living arrangements for a few days and they're not best impressed. I would expect letters.

To hoomin it may concern,

We the undersigned, have recently been in touch with the GPU, regarding the intolerable living conditions in which we find ourselves. Never did either of the undersigned agree to spending ONE night, let alone what we now understand has been extended to several, in such close quarters with a hoomin, (albeit a kind and generous one, such as the hoomin in question). However, this is a step too far and on reflection and after advice from the GPU, we have decided to hold a DIRTY protest!

We advise the hoomin in question to either get OUT, or get READY!

Yours sincerely

Camowen and Bann Skinnypig

We would like to add to this, a situation that has come up since:

He claims he's sorting out what was his bedroom so we can move into a nice big cage in there instead, it's a smaller room but we won't need to share it with anything except a box of hay and the bag/tubs of nuggets (he also says he's only buying the Cunipic next time because Science Selective came in non-resealable bags and apparently that's a "nuisance" although we think the word he actually used is unsuitable for this public forum). But he keeps rustling bags! Apparently the rubbish needs to go into bags and this is not a sign of our food coming at all. Apparently we've been fed for the day and loudly shrieking at him because of plastic bags isn't very nice, and he finds it very hard to find a spare hand to feed us when he's carrying a glass, an auto-spray air freshener, two plates, a placemat, and his hands are both full.

Even when he did manage to free a hand to grab us some nuggets (and opened the bag and grabbed the nuggets without putting anything down! He is adamant this is some kind of amazing feat) we clearly didn't get enough nuggets. We demand more nuggets. We deserve more nuggets.

We hope The One and Only Thea can help us help him see the error of his ways. This cannot be allowed to continue!

Yours sincerely,

Camowen and Bann, Skinnypigs.

They really aren't, I just had to turf them off their cuddle cups so I could microwave their Snugglesafes. They don't appreciate this, ever. Even though that's what I've been doing for a few months now, this is not new behaviour, and I'd rather they didn't freeze to death overnight, lol.

Do wee skinnypigs need extra care? Are they more fragile?

They can't regulate their body temperature and can't cope with temps outside of a narrow range - I try to keep the room they're in between 19-21 degrees. And then overnight when I can't keep an eye on the temperature the Snugglesafes are there if they want that extra warmth. I discovered the Snugglesafes would fit into the base of the cup and then I have fleece pads for the cup, they go on top of the Snugglesafe itself. Then I've a couple of fleecy forests that are made for going into the corner of a cage, so I put the cups under those. They like it too, the fleece forests provide the overhead cover that they like, and the fleece in the cuddle cups seems to let the heat last longer than if I put the Snugglesafes in their own covers.

Camowen, however, would let you believe he'd break if your hand goes anywhere near him, unless that hand holds food. Apparently food breaks the spell. Funny that.

Dear Camowen and Bann Skinny Pig

It has come to my attention that your Slave is making you share his room, that you are not being fed enough and you are also being turfed out of your lovely snuggly warm cuddle cups. This is not on! It is in contravention of all sorts of rules on piggy keeping: page 5, paragraph 4 subsection 2a of "How to have your own room and keep it", page 7, paragraph 3, subsection 5b of "How to ensure you are fed enough and that the food keeps arriving" and Page 23, paragraph 8, subsection 11c of "How to stay in your snuggly" to name but a few!

Your Slave may be promising your own room even though it is smaller but has he actually managed to put you in it yet? He has not! He may claim that he needs to keep you warm overnight, he has to reheat your snugglesafes and he has to turf you out of your cuddle cups to achieve this but he should have spare ones warmed up for you to hop into when the others get a bit cold and only then should he take out the others.

I've thought long and hard about how you should deal with this situation, and have decided that your best course of action is make as much wheaky noise as possible to demand food (Meg wheaks for grass in the morning if it hasn't arrived in time and our Slave then goes out to get it for us so wheaking does work), when your Slave is trying to sleep, do the water bottle rattle, Bann on one water bottle and Camowen and the other so you have a water bottle "duet" for your Slave to enjoy. This should ensure that your Slave sorts out the rooms fairly quickly.

Yours hoping that you are never cold

To The One and Only Thea, the GPU, and other forum piggies-

We would like to inform you that we are in our new home. Dad cheated us and coaxed us into a carrier under false pretences* and swiftly locked the door on us! That whole ten steps into the other room, locked in a carrier. The absolute nerve.

We do like out new home though. The room is nice and bright. It's a bit cramped for Dad to sit in with us when the hay box is inside but he says he can manage that. Dad says he'll grab some photos for everyone at dinnertime.

Yours,
Camowen and Bann, the Skinnypigs.

(*note from Dad - I did no such thing. I put down the carrier and they got nosy and wandered inside it.)

Worth it tho ! You should feel really pleased Lorcan ….it’s a big job on your own !

you know the worst part, is those grids come with a small mallet for the connectors. I knew this. I looked at the mallet. I looked at the identical mallet I got with the last box. And I squeezed them all in with my hands. Why I have no idea.

Wow. Amazing space for them.

Honestly all it has is an extra sq ft to it because the last one was 18 (6x3). Now it's a 5x3+2x2. But it works out better for them in the sense the cage layout makes it easier for me to sit inside it without disturbing them should I want to, it's brighter than the wall alcove they were in, and it means people can say hello without having to come into "my" room, if that makes sense.

I still need to put the mattress somewhere and I need to clear out the "old" cage but it's bin day on Thursday and it's currently full. So I'll leave it til Friday.
