I got Bruce from a pet store, well actually my husband did. He found him in with a group of males that were battering him, they were nibbling his ears, teeth chattering at him and generally bullying him. He was very small and looked underweight to me.

I mentioned to someone that he was from a pet store and have just got absolutely slated for it.

I know my husband did the right thing by bringing him home, poor little guy wouldn't have handled much more from the other boars.

I'm so angry that someone's told me i should have left him there! pow-pow

This is the state of Bruce's ears one week after having him, his left ear had a slight infection that cleared up within a week of having him.

We did do the right thing didn't we? :...

You did the right thing! He looks so happy :) well done!
All my piggies are from pet shops but I got them all before I came on the forum so I didn't know any different :(
But I wouldn't swap them for the world!
He's such a lovely piggie x

Yes I think you did the right thing! Definately! It just proves that sometimes it is not just the piggies at the rescue centres that are troubled. Poor little things x

He's lovely (I have a Bruce too who lives with his wifepig, Sheila x))
It really doesn't matter to me where the piggies come from, it's the care you give them and the life they have that matters :))
My first two boars came from a pet shop in a tiny village, three girls were from a retired breeder and the rest are rescues x)
Have 18 in total now so if we hadn't spotted and bought the first two, would have never known about rescues etc. so 16 more piggies have come to live with us since and that's good enough for me xx>>>

The way I see it, is that pet shops are probably always going to be around (as much as we may not agree with them) and it doesn't matter where you got him from. The important thing is that you have taken him from an unsuitable place and provided him with a home and the love and care that he needs. So well done! :)

aww hes lovely x) you def did the right thing you probably saved him from a miserable life or worse :)

Aw, hes gorgeous. Don't feel like you've done the wrong thing just because hes from a pet shop, everyone starts somewhere and anyway you did rescue him :)

awww bless him! he's adorable and I think you did the right thing!
Look at his poor little ears, no one could ignore that!

My 2 piggies came from a pet shop...as I also didnt know about the rescues before hand.

I agree that it does not matter where they come from as at the end of the day ALL piggies need a loving home (pet shops will always be around, so if I can help to provide loving homes for the animals they sell then I do not feel I am doing anything wrong)

However, I do understand the point of view of people who prefer to get their animals from rescues.

I personally would not breed them myself, I prefer to provide a loving home for animals who are already in the world. xx

IT DOESN'T MATTER WHERE THERE FROM !
it gets me so angry when people belittle others just because there pigs aren't from a rescue, at the end of the day as a loving piggy owner you've rescued that pig from a potentially horrible life, i know not everyone hurts there pigs or is cruel etc. but when i look at my two pet shop boys so pampered i think of the life they could have out in the hutch with the occasional bit of attention.
What happens to the pigs that don't get bought ? reduced ? snake food ? rescue or shop bought there all gorgeous and adding any family member to your family is great (: where do all these rescue pigs come from in the first place ? the pet shops, and your just getting to them before that has to happen

You did the right thing !

That's one beautiful boy and unfortunately sometimes we have to 'rescue' poorly or troubled piggies from pet shops who really don't know any better to keep them safe.

As the proud owner of two rescue pigs and two pet shop 'rescues' I agree it doesn't matter where they came from as long as it was in the best interests of that animal.

I know I support rescues all I can but sometimes there are other pigs in need too.

You love him and take care of him... of course you did the right thing.
Those that don't understand are sometimes (not always) the ones who do nothing because they feel that everything is not the right way about doing it.

Please ignore that stupid person who was so ignorant and mean. How could you leave the poor little boy? His poor ears look so sore. Thank goodness he has a happy home with you now and is loved. That is all that matters.

You've totally done the right thing, poor little thing. So pleased he is home safe and sound with you in his new home forever. he is such a beautiful boy, looking forward to seeing more of him.

Of course, you did the right thing. I hate to think what might have happened to that piggy otherwise. You've actually rescued him and I applaud you for that.

couldnt agree more, you definately did the right thing, he is a credit to you and so cute! x

Oh just ignore them, the most important thing is that piggys (or any animal) finds a good loving home regardless of were they come from.

There is no right or wrong in any situation just different opinions.

:)

I have two rescue, two pet shop pigs i love them all equally and wouldn't change where/how/or why i got them. :)

Out of all my piggies, Stanley was bought from a shop. Like Bruce, he was being bullied. Barty, Bella, Lola and Angel were all rescues. Rebel was a freebie! Lola was pregnant when I rescued her and didn't know! He's now a very big part of our family as he's barking mad and into everything! :))

Well it looks like your piggy is much happier now, well done you. It really only matters what your piggy thinks so ignore whoever said such a stupid thing.

you did the right thing. I just got another Reily from a pet store just yesterday. She was in bin, with just a bowl of plain pellets, water bottle, no house, with a few younger females. I don't know how old she is, but the clerk said that everyone was passing her up because they wanted the babies and she had been there for a long time. She is clearly an older pig, I instantly connected to her. Pet store don't always provide the best care for their animals, sadly Ive seen this true with chain pet stores. My second pig Ruby was pet store bought. I stopped in once I found out she had came home with ring worm to let them know in case they still had any other pigs she was housed with. I was told that the rest that weren't bought or returned for being sick were put down, guess it was cheaper to get new pigs from a breeder than treat them. I was disgusted. Had I of known they all would have went home with me that day. This was a large pet store chain that shall remain nameless. You did the right thing! I am sure he is going to have a wonderful forever home with you, and a great life where he is adored, and that is what matters most!

I wanted to share a piccy

Here is my marmite pig

it's hard to see but his ears, well they're virtually non existent ! reminded me of your boy ! they kinda just are stubs on his head that stick up, it's so cute though !

As long as you are taking care of him then I dont care where you got him x>> In an ideal world petshops wouldn't sell animals and I would use a rescue if it was possible but in my eyes you rescued him anywaysxoxo

I love my Bruce to pieces, it was very hectic when he first came home, i wasn't expecting my hubby to bring a guinea pig home, we didn't have a spare cage to quarantine or anything!

We ended up clearing out an old plastic crate and using that for him, my hubby also got hold of a large cardboard box that we used during the day for Bruce to run around in that we put in our living room. It was chaotic for those 4 weeks but it was sooooooo worth it!

Far from ideal i know
