I know Kale is good for them but......

Is it normal for a guinea pig to not like Kale? My guinea pig absolutley hates it. If I offer her a tiny piece while she is sitting on my lap, she will take it and toss it onto the ground. If she is in her cage, she will take it out of her food dish and proceed to crap and pee on it until I take it out.


Other than Apples and strawberries, she loves lettuce (Romaine). But is that normal for a guinea pig to turn down Kale even if many other guinea pigs love it to bits?
 
Some piggies like certain things and others do not, like people do. It's perfectly normal :) My piggy Willow loves carrots, while Dobby does not.
 
All piggies have different personalities like us. I cant see it being a problem her not liking it so long as shes eating ok otherwise. I think Kale is quite high in calcium so dont overfeed on the stuff.

Ah ok. Because this one will turn down even oranges and other fruits and veggies that I offer. She only likes Apples, strawberries, and lettuce. I kinda find that strange.


She eats really well and always has a supply of hay in her hay rack.... She will pull out everything and only eat the fuzzy bits haha..... What a turd
 
Neither of mine like Kale much. They are also slow in appreciating fruits (the only ones they like so far is strawberries (only one will eat it) and apples)

There is some days i can put parsley into their house and Onyx will literally back away at a zillion miles an hour......so funny to watch :(|)
Don't faze, try again sometime if you have some more in the house.
Someone (who shall remain nameless) is a little Miss at times isn't she ;)x)
 
Oh Glynis..... She is a little turd.

Her attitude is horrible somedays. However she is so picky its not even funny. haha

But sometimes I don't even think she even cares. She knows she eats well, lots of hay, fruits (I have to share a little bit of apple with her) and loves her lettuce as a treat. She also has some vitamin c drops that I put in a second water bottle and she loves that.... But trying to offer her Kale is a different story.....

How do you introduce other types of food to these guys?
 
lentil and jake hate apple, pear, coriander, peppers, carrots! so so fussy! Bounty loves everything!
 
:(|) They're all different - all mine like Kale luckily but two don't care for carrots. My fridge is rammed with their veggies as having six piggies with varying tastes is a lot of stuff a week. They loved fine chopped celery and spring greens at one point but hate them now :{ Only fruit they like (for now) is water and honeydew melon and apple. Tried raspberries, strawberries, grapes, bananas...exhaustive list but they ran off :x
 
Not all of mine like Kale. As I have a chronic cystitis piggies, I have to be very careful not to give kale too often. Like spinach, it is very high in calcium and should not be fed on a daily basis.
 
Ah ok. Well as i hear about it now, I think i truly have a high matienced pig haha. Very very picky.... Also I never knew Kale can cause bladder stones.
 
Christina, I have one too.. I swear he turns his nose up to everything except for apples and grapes. He will very slowly eat cucumbers and red peppers and he loves spinach leaves but those are only a sometimes food so he doesn't get that. I just went out and bought him a whole load of new veggies to try and he hates the kale, dill, strawberries, collard greens, dill, yellow squash, zucchini, and the asparagus too. He is eating the kale but only a tiny nibble every hour. The dill is the funniest thing though, he won't get within a foot of it little stinker!
 
My 2 are getting fussier with age....they used to eat apple & pear now they won't touch them....they only eat cucumber if its cut into thick strips & carrots if they've been peeled!
I think they are just very spoiled!
 
mine love kale and spinach (they would) but turned their nose up at apple and sweed rolleyes oh and corgette.

They are fussy little tykes but thats why we love them so much.
 
All my guinea pig love kale, but if ypou had a big bag of grass they would rather go for the grass then the kale!
Have you tried yours with chicory!? (I think thats how you spell it) :)
 
How often do you offer new food to piggies, before deciding whether they'll change their mind about it and like it?! Some foods they love straight away, others they'll take a nibble at and leave. How long do you persist with one food for? :{
