£513 :(

My car wouldn't start at all the other day. It does this from time to time but if I leave it for a while, it starts working. Well the other day it didn't...

I managed to bump/push start it and got it to the garage. They have found loads of problems with the car - first quote was £471 but just before they closed yesterday they rang to say starter motor is knackered so total is now £513. I really really don't have that kind of money and am going to have to use my overdraft to pay it (which I really don't want to do!)

As you can see, I have bumped up the thread about making websites for people again - for 5/6 page website I am charging £50. I have created 2 websites for people on the forum before and they both appear happy with the work i've done. I am not working today so if anybody is interested I can get started on it straight away.

Oh gosh what a worry for you. Are you able to list them on a one day listing on Ebay? Might be more instant cash.....

Or perhaps a car boot sale at the weekend? Might make £100 or more if you've got a couple of larger things?

Sorry, that's all I can think of. I hate it when cars won't work - so frustrating.

Would take me ages to list all of the CDs and PS2 games on eBay - also the cost of putting them on etc... just wouldn't be worth it! I really need my car as without it I can't work or get to university. I'm just so annoyed!
 
At least you're not bothering with eBay, I don't know how anyone makes any money on that! (not wishing to dismiss your suggestion Sophie, I'm not a fan of selling on eBay! :) )Cars are horribly expensive aren't they :( Will have to have a think about money raising schemes...
 
I was in tears yesterday as I really cannot afford it. I just don't know what to do!

Could you see if your work could offer you some extra hours to make a bit more money? Or sign up with a temping agency to get some extra work that way?

Sadly these days basic web design work often ends up paying less than minimum wage once you work out the hourly rate.

I already work quite a lot of hours - I don't get paid for a while though so that is why I need to raise money now :(

Web designers charge hundreds/thousands for websites. I have only been charging £50 for the websites I have done for the people on the forum - this is because I of course would not rip off anybody on here but also, I enjoy making these websites for people and I know people don't have the money to spend on websites.

Pay when I pick it up which is today. Like I said in first post, I will be in my overdraft but I will be at the end of my overdraft and i'm not getting paid for a while so I won't have any money at all.
 
Not the sort of thing I would usually recommend, but what about approaching your bank and explaining your situation and they may be able to give go a small loan that you can pay straight off? I hate the thought of loans myself but I had to do this when I needed a flat deposit for a couple of weeks rent in advance when I was working in London and took out a £500 loan and it really helped. Sometimes it's necessary to have things like that for these unexpected emergencies.
