I have just noticed that my boy Colin has some thinning patches on his back. On closer inspection, I was horrified to see little things wriggling around the base of the hairs. Poor Colin. I'm suprised I only just noticed but he does have very thick hair.

He's fine in himself and eating/running around as normal. He doesn't have any scabs or lesions so I think I've caught it early. I didn't really think he'd been scratching more than normal (he lives in the lounge so I see him all the time) but now he does seem to be reaching round to bite them.

I've looked on Peter Guerney's website and I assume from this that Colin has 'running lice'. He says Neem Oil is the best thing to use.

Can anyone tell me where to buy this? And should I try this first or just take him to a vet? I'm a bit hesitant to incase they want to start taking skin scrapings etc.

Poor Colin :(

I just checked my other two boys, Leroy and Malcolm (they live over the other side of the room). They don't have any thinning patches but they do have tiny little wriggly things :( :( They seem to have even more than Colin.

Obviously I'm going to have to treat them all. Should I take them all to the vet or treat them here first?

Thanks for any advice. Haven't had any problems with my boys so far so has come as a bit of a shock :( Thinking it might be related to a new supply of hay that I've used...

Hi Sarah, poor Colin. I would highly recommend regular shampoos with products from Gorgeous Guines www.gorgeousguineas.com They have a special shampoo called Lice and Easy. I would also recommend emailing the lady who runs it for advice, she is superhelpful and will advise you.

Good luck :)

yeah, use the gorgeous guineas stuff it's good. :) and as Boureki said if you e-mail Chrisse she can advise you on what products to use.
you can get her e-mail off the contact page on the website. :) hope poor little colin is better soon. :smitten: :smitten:

Thank you for your help! I will email the lady this afternoon. I think I'll give them a bath and good clean out too this afternoon. I feel sorry for them :(
