Brought him out for a cuddle today and noticed he has ALOT of dandruff. I tried checking for black dots and found teeny tiny dust particle sized black spots in his hair. Would these be mites? How should I go about treating him :(

Oh no wait he has these small orange like lice in his hair. Can it be passed on to humans? Urghh it is making my head itch. I am worried about touching my rabbit now incase I pass them on to her. Any advice as to what he has and what to do

If you can see them it's most likely lice, either way the treatment is the same. If you take him to your vets you can get ivermectin (xeno) which is a topical spot-on treatment, usually you give one dose then another 10 days later. It's recommended to also treat his cage mates and make sure you clean the cage thoroughly.

Mange mites cannot be seen so its most likely lice -You get obtain some Xeno from the vets or online. Give the cage and all the bowls, toys etc a good disinfectant and be sure to treat any other pigs in contact.

I think they are lice. I have been checking his fur and only seen a couple so I think it is the first few stages. Is it possible to treat it at home with small animal spot on by like Johnsons or whichever brand it is that sell it for small animals?

I find Johnsons quite inaffective to be honest, your better off getting the stuff at works well - Xeno

"static lice" I think can come in on hay, proper lice need an animal host and don't live long away from one, so would need contact with another piggie.

Just phoned up the vet and got him in for saturday. I will disinfect his cage and try a different brand of hay. Urgghhh head itching and getting flashbacks of having lice in school :( Hope he will be ok, he isn't scratching very much from when I have been watching him and I only saw 2 or 3 so hopefully it will get nipped in the bud
