Cookie22

Hi,

i need help :p today i want to the pet store to see about getting something for my hamster and guinea pig and i went over to look at the guinea pigs in this large open cage thing, as i always like to do. And i saw a lovely cute guinea pig, i think it was a female and it was beige and brown with pink ears :(|) SO cute!. Now i'm home, i can't stop thinking about it. And i've asked my mum "ohhh, that guinea pig! i want another one!" and just keep on about it.
A few weeks ago i got a hamster for my birthday, which i love. And i have a guinea pig called Cookie which i've had for about 2 years. i had another one but it died.

I need help in trying to get over wanting to get this other guinea pig. :p I've had guinea pigs since i was 7 and i am now 22 so i guess i'm just addicted to them and when the others i have die, i want to get another and another LOL

The food and bedding bill and if i had to take it to the vet bill doesn't matter at the moment, lol (until i've had it for a while and have spent a lot on both the guinea pigs and my hamster then it will occur to me:p)

I'm sure you are like this too, to the people who have like 4, 5,6,7 etc guinea pigs? You see one in a pet store or somewhere and you want it?

There has to be a cut off point. I have 13 and that is my absolute limit although I have space for 6 rescues I can't keep anymore.

If you are going fo another, which would be nice for your lone pig I would go for a rescue pig. :)

Aww if you've got a lonely piggie then why not, :(|)

I got a group of 6 girlies and i so fell in love with a little piggie in the pet store but i controlled myself, 6 is my limit-c

Oh my god! you have 13!?
and you kezza30 has 6! wow

lol i dunno whether my guinea pig will be pleased to have a new guinea pig to hang out with or not, because Cookie used to be mean to the other guinea pig i had before she died. But it's me that will like to have it lol

uhm...a rescue one? i've never had experience with owning/looking after one of those. It might it harder to look after because if it's been ill treated and that.

i don't think my dad's going to like it. I think he'll kill me if i told him about this guinea pig and that i want it :p i mean he's let me have the ones i've previously had in my life but that was through some begging before he gave up and let me have. But this time, i know he's not going to let me.

Nah rescue pigs haven't necessarily been mistreated. Flora and Fleur are rescues and were born at rescue, Amber and Pearl were not mistreated either. Eccles was born at a vets, Milo born at a rescue.

There are all different reasons why pigs end up at rescue sadly some are mistreated but the majority are there because circumstances change etc etc.

With Pet Shop Pigs you don't know if they are from an animal mill, inbreed or have genetic problems. :)

Agreed, many pigs in rescue are simply there because of either a change in circumstances for owners, or they've lost interest and are not necessarily "problem" pigs or special needs :) Plus it's worth knowing that there are often loads of scrummy baby piggies born into rescue who need a loving home ;)

I have 8, two of those are supposed to be up for rehoming soon if we can bear to part with them - we got them from a woman who was trying to sell them on eBay, then tried to advertise them as free gifts (!). These pigs needed vet treatment which we provided and some love and attention, but are now happy and well adjusted and probably ready to be rehomed :)

All our boys have been from a rescue centre apart from one.

I have.....16:o and that is more than enough! can't afford any more, and it would be cruel to have more as i can't give them the individual attention

I have 25 - but I do have time and money for them, and I couldn't imagine being without all of them! Not all rescued guinea pigs are fussy to handle. One of mine, Little Star, was actually born in a rescue centre (her mum arrived there pregnant) and we got her when she was nine weeks old. She was a bit skittish, but at that age they are easy to tame. I also have some older rescues and although some of them weren't too good at being handled, a little time and cuddles is all that's usually needed. If you are thinking of getting a rescue pig, I wouldn't let fear of them being difficult put you off. :)

We have seven piggies and you never stop loving them and wanting to add to them. Each time we go to buy the food from the pet shop we see the little ones in there and I would dearly love to take them home, but head rules over heart!
Then on the other hand, if there is a piggy in need of a good home which would otherwise be dumped ... I rather take that piggy!

We now have three bunnies (one bought, one found and one handed over because of not wanting it anymore).

Rescue piggies are not all maltreated or have "issues". A lot of them end up there because the owners surrender them because they can't look after them anymore due to personal reasons, ie. money, divorce etc.
So if you really want another piggy...try the local rescue, I bet you find a similar looking one there, too!
