Is anyone else as soppy as me over Guinea pigs? I've just been to the farm by me and they have 2 piggies in a tiny box outside, they are long haired and filthy. I asked the man how long they have been there and he said 2 months and they are not selling anymore piggies after these as they are too expensive. I asked if they get veg and he said oh no, we just give them a bit of food and hay. He then offered me a discount if I would take them there and then! Poor babies, they looked scared to death and I am Soooooo tempted. I just want to save them all and shower them with love.

Awwww i know how you feel... i go and look at them in pets at home and wish i could have more.... sounds like the farm just want rid of them, poor little things...

I know, that's the trouble, it's supply and demand, but I haven't stopped thinking about them all night. I guess there will always be places selling them for a quick profit, I don't want to add to that but these guys look so sad and are in such poor conditions, would it be an idea to contact the rspca?

They are sows, although I would need to turn them over to check, where about are you situated?

I'm local, where are they? Feel free to PM me x

Hi guys, would you be willing to help me out if they don't bond with my girls? I'm gonna go get them tomorrow, I'll quarantine them, bath, trim them and treat them for mites, did you want to take them Tim?

I've pm'd you hun x

I can take them if they are sows if all else falls through . But please don't pay for them. Offer to buy something else in the shop and have them 'thrown in' for free. And once you have them safe give them an earful about their obvious neglect . Good luck x

I was checking some websites for any second hand Guinea equipment yesterday and kept finding piggies needing new homes. Some people try and sell them for a lot of money despite them clearly needing them rehomed as they no longer want them! one really pulled at my heartstrings as the person said the lone pig needs to go asap as her teenagers don't look after it. It said pig would come with small cage and remaining straw! Didn't even appear to have any hay. Breaks my heart knowing this is the tip of an iceberg.
I hope you get the piggies and they realise not to get anymore. Would love to see pics of them!

Will keep you all updated, heading up there shortly, hope they are still there! X I know what you mean about piggies needing homes, I often look for guinea stuff and come across piggies. It's a shame that people don't research before buying pets so they can give them proper care! X

Ok so I have had a bit of an experience this morning, first off I got the girls, pics to follow. The lad in the shop must have only been about 16! I asked to have a look at the girls and that I wanted them in a high side box to check them over, he was chasing them round trying to get them so I told him to hold the box and I would pick them up. Luckily they eventually froze. After closer inspection I noticed one of them had a crusty ear, they are both girls. I asked him to get the manager so I could discuss this and that I wanted a mite treatment thrown in for each. He came back and said his manager will not give me mite treatment and she would knock off 2 pounds for the one with the crusty ear! I didn't know what else to do, I couldn't leave them there so o bought them and the mite treatment. I'm so upset as I noticed they also have a lone long haired boar just laying with his head in the corner of his box cage! I have to say OT was quite an upsetting situation. Here's the pics and some of her ear.

Well done for getting them out of there! They are probably scared but little do they know they have just got the luckiest break ever!

They are beautiful, I wouldn't have been able to leave them there either and I'm a boar only home! Which brings me onto the lone boar you mentioned I hope somebody on here can rescue him, I would but I've only just got mr Oakley paired with little Ollie but that doesn't mean I'm not tempted! Are you allowed to say the name of the place? Sounds like they should be named and shamed anyway!

Keep us updated, I for one am eager to find out how it's going xx

Not sure if I'm allowed to say the name of the place, but I would love to name and shame them. We have decided on toffee for my brown girl and Lola for my white princess. I really hope that the boar gets saved too, they did have another cage advertising boars but I couldn't see anything in it so hopefully it's just the one now. I would like to report them but I don't know what for. I'm not sure it's illegal to keep pigs in that way even though I xo think they weren't looked after well. The girls are currently hiding which is only to be expected. Lola's ears are filthy and her white fur is stained brown from feaces. I will see how they are tonight and try to clean them up a bit if they let me x

Terrible that they made you pay for them when they WANTED to get rid of them and were obviously not looking after them. Glad you managed to rescue them! Good on you and hope the mite treatment goes well.

Once you have them all cleaned up and have gotten over the shock of being in a good home I'm sure there will be popcorning!

Thank you, I am so looking forward to getting to know them  I will post some pics after they have had their make over lol. On a serious note though guys I just want to thank you all for your kind support, it's nice to know I can come to this forum to ask questions and get such nice comments. X

Good on you! They are beautiful! Pity they still have one living there :(. I ended up paying £40 for 3 sows who were living in a 100cm cage with no hay or hidys (not that any would have fitted) and a big bowl full of Muslie food which took up half the floor space! When I took them they didn't even have any food or nothing to go with them! Apparently they just ran out! When I got them home and started cleaning the cage I couldn't even get my dustpan through the woodshavings...they were welded to the bottom with pee and the smell of ammonia was awful...my house stank the rest of the day and the cage was binned :(

Can't wait to see pics of their makeover :) X

That is truly awful! I don't even want to imagine how bad that stink was. Glad you were able to help them. And @BB3 I was almost certain you'd have gone with Leia and Padme for names.;) Ah sorry seems I had you confused with @Guineapigfeet

I am glad they are safe but unfortunately paying for them has just perpetuated the problem. This is not rescuing. I know our hearts can rule our heads but this is not the answer. Addressing the welfare issues with the manager, reporting to the local authority and the RSPCA but not buying them. I don't want to make you feel bad but this is the harsh reality of the breeding world. They are lovely though x
