I thought to myself earlier as I heard a Chinook buzzing overhead for ages. But then I remembered that the German armed forces have literally only just ordered them and Ramstein airbase is over 100km away so it can't be the Americans either.

Where is that noise coming from?

After searching everywhere for what seemed like ages and checking Flight tracker, I finally found the source of the noise.

Knäckebrot.

Why does my little man rank with the best impressionist when it comes to making helicopter noises? He does it when he is running between levels, almost like he is announcing his arrival, or maybe he is cos playing Apocalypse Now?

Is this the famed rumble I have heard of? If so, nobody mentioned that it makes the house shake 😂😂

I could tell Blitzen was rumbling when I had earbuds in at full volume because I could feel it through the floor. He had it down to an art.

The goblins are rumblers, but not to the extent Blitzen could master. So I don't doubt it, lol.

Dignified Sir George is a Rumblestrut master too. When he gets going it sounds like there's a motorbike, he has a magnificent bum wiggle too. He does let himself down somewhat when it degenerates into a squeaky popcorn session.

My Rainbow Piggy Christian was The Rumble Strut King. He had a very impressive bum waggle that looked like a guinea pig Haka. He would dance on his back legs while wiggling his bum and at the same time keep his head and front legs completely stationary while emitting a deep rumbling noise. He would also have to let everyone know exactly where he was all the time and wherever he went he kept up a running commentary.

I love watching a good Rumblestrut, they clearly think they are so fierce and scary..........

Welcome to the world of boars! Rumble-strutting is a big part of boar life.

In conjunction with a sow group, it is part wooing but also often just the way how boars express their general manly happiness, especially when the rumbling seamlessly moves into a popcorning session.
Two boars will measure up against each other by rumble-strutting; it also has got a territorial function. It was a bit of an eye opener that my various Tribe boars in the piggy room actually have a hierarchy between them through the cage bars which constantly changes as boars come into their prime, old leaders age, new boys of any age arrive, very rarely are born here. Not every boar wants to be a leader, either.

Especially newly bonded 'husboars' have a phase when their vocabulary is extremely restricted - apart from the food wheek,
everything comes out as a rumble... I always find it very endearing. :D

Boars are generally either 'mountaineers' (dominance humpers) or rumble-singers - the latter are generally the more submissive/laid-back boys. I've currently still got 5 of them in my piggy room (which is down from 9 'husboars' over the pandemic). I writing this accompanied by the sound of Merlin's latest serenade playing in the background...
