I've already contacted my vet, and was told there is nothing more they can do. I was hoping someone could give me any other ideas.
Bosco is a 7-8 year old male guinea. He's always been a sassy boy. Yesterday he quit coming out for his salad. Pooping has slowed way down and totally disinterested in water or anything else I offer.
I've been using a syringe to get water into him, and trying to do the same with a food smoothie. Water he tolerates, food not at all.
I know he's a little old man, and death comes to all. Is there anybody with any ideas more then what I've been doing? He doesn't seem to be in any pain. He's still pooping and peeing but not at a normal pace. Just at a loss and needed to share with a community that would understand.
I've been owned by guineas for 30+ years ago this is the hardest I've ever seen one fight.

Hello and welcome
So sorry it’s such a sad time for you. He does sound like he is failing. Only you know your boy, would a second opinion from another vet help and find out what is wrong with Bosco. In the meantime don’t give up hope x

Hi and welcome

I am very sorry! What a worrying time for you! Do you have a vet you can contact for advice/an emergency appointment?

Have you checked for GI stasis (no or only very little gurgling in the gut? But that generally also includes drinking, and not just eating.
Bloat, GI Stasis (No Gut Movement) And Not Eating

However, it sounds to me rather like his body has started closing down. There is unfortunately nothing you can do to stop it once this process is underway. How it goes depends on which organ gives first and how strong the various organs are. :(

Please read the advice in this link here. You should find the last two chapters helpful as they deal with guinea pigs in crisis and what you can do for guinea pigs in multiple organ failure: Emergency, Crisis and Bridging Care until a Vet Appointment

HUGS - it is always such a gut wrenching realisation, not matter what the age. I have lost my Heulwen this way only three weeks ago, she was around her 8th birthday. You have my full sympathy! :(

I thought about a second opinion, but we have no other vet's in a two hour radius that will even see a guinea pig, but thanks

Sadly Bosco passed away about an hour ago. He died very peacefully in my arms. I know we gave him the best care we could and nothing can stop the progression of time. Please send good thoughts to his brother Peanut. He will certainly feel the loss. Thanks for all the kind thoughts.

Aw, so sorry for your loss!
Sounds like it was simply his time, he was a good age for a piggie. He obviously had a lovely life with you, and it's comforting that he went to Rainbow Bridge peacefully in your arms. Hugs to you and Peanut x

I’m so sorry you had to go through that, guinea pigs passing away is one of the most tragic things. I bet he had the best life and let him rest in peace.
